Wrap your ass in fiberglass and....
....get your car totalled by a little 600lb harley. it's official, the vette is totalled. i'll keep the car regardless, but now it's decision time. a very rough estimate of the cost of repair going through all the people i know is 4500-5000 bux. the insurance company will probably give me between $4000 and $7000 depending on how successful my lawyer friend is at being a pain in the ass to the insurance company. the question is: do i spend most of next summer off the track and rebuild the vette....AGAIN! (with the outside possibility of having some money left over for improvements) or, do i part it out and take all the money to go hunt down my next favorite car, a 4th gen WS6? lemme know what u think.

I know how much you love the 'vette, but all along, we've said you're an F-body guy. You just don't act like a 'vette guy.
I say keep the motor, sell everything else that may be of some value in the car, and go find your LS1 WS6

i know the 'Vette must mean a lot....but it it's already been rebuilt once, and you got hit again...i'd be a little superstitious. some cars are "cursed", i think. sell the 'vette and buy the WS6. 6-spd, black, w/ t-tops.

I completely feel the same way about the "cursed" thing...My 97 WS-6 was most definately cursed. I wrecked it once, then not long after I got it back I did it again, and again, and not one time had to do with driving like an *******. The car was a magnet for accidents, go with the WS-6.

you seemed to have a lot fo fun with the vette, but that thing is toast man. by the time you got it all straight you would have spent 3times the money that you could get another one to work on.
if you like the C3 styling and really wanna rock a vette i say go shopping for a cheap one.
if you want car payments and higher insurance go for the bird.

and either swap the good parts onto yours or swap your good parts onto the new one. they can be had for around 5k. thank god the '80s are over and not just any old vette would bring 10k.

well.. if you do end up parting out the vette... please let me know, I have a 79 i'm building(6 year project so far) and i need some odd and end parts and some interior stuff. 4th gens are nice, i loved my 3rd gens and the 79 when i drove it, but an ls1 4th gen is sweet. Good luck with whichever way you go.

i still think of the vette as "your thing" i can't really see you in a firebird or a camaro after that. I'd like to see you in another vette. but i'm sure that rebuilding it would be a pain. and probably cost a lot of your own money. but in my opinion, the vette is you, and i can't picture you driving anything else. it's like your trademark.

^that is exactly the car i'd be going for. and yeah, the vette does seem alittle cursed. everything that could go wrong did go wrong with just about every aspect of rebuilding it the first time. u guys know better than me, what r the 98-01 WS6's going for now?

well a year ago when i went shopping a nice pewter 99 6 speed was 17k asking...meaning maybe 15k at its best...id say a 98 should be in the 10-13k range reasonably...but it all depends on if you go dealer or private and if you dont find some smackass trying to get a ****load for a 6-7 year old car...i did find a 80k mile 98 black TA auto for $8k when i was looking but it was a little rough around the edges and had a little more mileage then i was looking for. Oh and find out the buy back price of your car...you did put alot of parts into it im sure you could make your money back if you bought the car back in parts alone.

Will's drivetrain was recently "freshened". Something tells me that motor isn't going to dissappear right away.
