Colorado SS
400hp, 400ftlbs of tire ripping torque, and all in a little to-go package...
Vehicle Highlights
In the hallowed tradition of SS-badged Chevrolets such as the Chevelle, Camaro, and awesome 1990-93 454 SS Sport Truck, the Colorado SS show vehicle sets a new benchmark for road-going performance. The Colorado SS launches with 400 horsepower from the 2005 Corvette’s LS2 and then benefits from a complete package of high-performance features.
LS2 6.0L V-8 with 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. torque that exhales through a custom-built performance exhaust from the catalyst rearward
Heavy-duty 4L70-E four-speed automatic transmission with floor shifter
Heavy-duty 9.5-inch rear axle with a locking differential for added traction and a short 3.73:1 rear axle ratio for rapid acceleration
Front disc brakes measuring over 12 inches that are sourced from the full-size Chevrolet Silverado; rear disc brakes from the Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
Lowered suspension riding on brushed nickel-plated 20-inch Silverado SS rims
Stylized interior with unique trim, bezels, and seats
Custom exterior package with unique grille, fascias, flares, rocker extensions and tonneau cover

i still don't see why gm can't jsut throw a big vortec into a 1500 series to create the SS.
it is nice to see teh use of diesel, but it is still nto even close to being teh accepted fuel of a "performance" vehicle.
an 8100series motor in a 1500 woudl be a bad ass truck. make a manual transmission optional and i bet you could sell a ton of them.
later

i think in the end thats the problem, price...you could pick up a lightning when they were new for a little over 30g's...most diesels start at 30g's and work their way up to nearly 50 depending on model and options. An 8.1 would be nice but they should be realistic in pricing...one way or the other though ford is out of the game, dodge wont make that srt10 for long since they've probably sold about 3 of them so far lol...from what that article on the lightning al brought up its not enough for them to make a niche truck...though i sure like to look at them

You can get the 6.0 HO motor in a 1500....in Texas. Or if you go to Joe Gibbs Chevy.
I think that the Colorado would be a much better car, as it is much lighter then the full size trucks.

it should haul some ass, the joe gibbs truck is nice but strapped to a 5 speed im not sure how long it would last...as far as the 6.0 in a 1500 it should still only be a 14 second truck at best.

Sorry but I'm a little confused. How would slapping in a 8100 engine in place of that small engine put it's price range in par with the srt10? The v10 isn't a cheap motor to produce. The 8100 chevy motor is a fraction of the cost. Through it in a SMALL truck (like the original 454ss pickup) add some AWD and you've got yourself a gas guzzlin sports truck. Think of it as a sports car that hauls ass (literally. yes I stole that from the syclone ad). Right now it looks like GM's trying to market the SS to shmoozing loaded fathers or guys that want a looker. Either one of those buyers could care less for the AWD. Just give them 2wd.... it won't be going off road anytime soon. Seriously, what's with the smallish engine n/a and heavy truck, that truck would probably be faster with 2wd.
The body appearances are way over-rated. I can't talke for everybody but if I were looking into a performance truck I could care less about it's appearance. The only thing it has to do is PERFORM.
I must admit, that new SS looks good appearance wise. Chevy is going back to their early 90's design styling ques where they were going for "dead sexy." instead of that bubbly boobily (late 90's).

Putting aside idiotic brand loyalty, who thinks this is better or worse than a Lightning?
After all, that is the direct competition it seems.....well, before the new 500hp SVT comes...
i think its a pretty damn close argument in either direction. But given the choice, and assuming the prices are pretty similar, i'd take the SS.

this would be like an 03 cobra engine in a ranger.
honestly, brand loyalty aside (ok, i'm not really brand loyal, i just don't like ford that much), i'd rather have a smaller truck with a little less powerful engine. but i mean, at 400+ hp, who cares?

The L is canned. There will be no 500hp anything from Ford. There will be only 1 SVT car for the near future, and thats the GT. There is even some talk about SVT just being disolved.
As for what is better...400hp engine in a 3400lb truck as compared to the 380hp engine in a 5300 lb truck... Id take the Colorado SS.

Well first things first....why did they cann the lightning?? and why would SVT dissolve?
I think its a good argument cuz it dosnt take much to get the L to 400RWhp range with just a pulley swap and awd dosnt matter much after 15 mph. What makes the deal for me is the huge potential for the LS2.

The L was canned because Ford does not want to foot the bill for it.
I belive with teh new F150 design, they did not want to create a new body just for the L. The new F150 has at least 3drs, or so I read somewhere. For the L, they would need a new cab and bed. Ford doesnt think that they want to be in the sports truck game anymore.
As for SVT going away, Ford does not see SVT as something they need anymore. They can be absorbed into Ford and used to help out future cars, but a division to fix-up production cars could be gone from Ford.
IMO, good move for Ford. Ford needs to cut all lose ends, and start to make cars for people outside of the enthusiats population. There car line up is seriously lacking, and is in need of an update. Even the new Ford 500 falls short.
Taurus and Crown Vic are fleet machines
Focus went from cool to gay, not to mention it didnt get the Mazda3 chassis like the Euro Focus did.
This is all while the Malibu posts its 2nd month in a row of 150% increase in sales over last year, on top of the release of the new Cobalt and revised Impala.
Chevy might not have a pony car...but they got everything else.
