Computer geek types, got a question.

i just got a Diamond Stealth 9250 graphics card for a killer price, only problem is it's an AGP version.
my comp has 3 PCI ports and a spot for an AGP port, but no port (to the right in the pics, just next to the open PCI port).

soooo.....where can i pick up an AGP port to put in that slot and do i need to solder it onto the board?

IMO, you're hosed. Technically you could solder an AGP port on there, but then you'd have to get a BIOS to recognize it... and chances are it would be very difficult to get the port on in the first place.

from what i heard, the comp should recognize the port if it's installed (don't know if it's true or not). i'm not afraid to pull the board out and solder the port on if that's the case.
 can't return the card.

and i might be getting a new PC around December, don't know yet, so i'm not up for swapping out boards unless i'm sure i'm keeping it.

ive never heard of soldering a port onto the board, that could be kinda dangerous. although i have 2 motherboards i could sell you, the newer one needs a reflashed BIOS from Asus though. both are Asus boards. $40 for either board. the one that needs the BIOS is a P4C800-E Deluxe and the other one is a P4G8X Deluxe. A new bios chip only costs $5.

Either way it's gonna be a pain. You can physically solder the AGP slot onto the board, but it has to be done perfectly or you can kill the entire board. You would prolly have to get a BIOS chip from the version of that motherboard that came with AGP support, and then install it and flash it to the latest version.
Other option would be to pick up a cheap motherboard with AGP, and use that. Only problem with that is, your current Windows setup might not accept the new board, and you may have to reinstall Windows over top of itself to get the system to run afterwards. This won't cause you to lose any data, you'll just have to update some preferences, as not all of them are retained.

That card looks pretty good, even though I'm partial to Nvidia's chipsets. Personally, I would just swap to another board. I don't have any P4/Celeron boards laying around, otherwise I would sell one to you cheap.

			It's a Presario 6350US with the stock board, P4 2.4.

It's an ASUS P4G533-LA board. Used in many HPs and Compaqs. I did a google search, but I couldn't find a version of that board with AGP support. I'm sure there is one though. Hmm...I'll look at Asus' website to see if they still list it.

It's specifically made for that company by Asus. They don't even list it as a model on their website.

			Looks pretty good to me.
Might want to wait for Brando to chime in, as I don't pay much attention to P4 boards. I stick with AMD stuff.

im here im here, looks alright though its micro atx which means its alot smaller then the other boards, which also means that it might not bolt up in your case correctly :-/ i still recommend you check out my board Asus P4G8X Deluxe i'll sell it to you for $35 (cant beat that), i has more features then the board your looking at and there is nothing wrong with it, works perfectly. the only thing is it doesnt support 800mhz FSB. time to take a shower now and drop my car off at kaseys...

newer P4 processors have whats called 800mhz Front Side Bus, it forget what it actually is, but i do remember that the speed of the processor depends on it. older P4 processors have a 533mhz Front Side Bus. Hence a new processor (one with an 800mhz FSB) wont work with this board. when you boot up your computer one of the first things that it will say is either "533mhz FSB" or "800mhz FSB" (im pretty sure i never pay attention to the POST screen anymore...)

it's a P4 2.4GHz

and if i search it on newegg, this is the only one that comes up

i have all the stuff for it and anything extra you might need, i have a brown box that i keep all my cables an miscellaneous **** in. if your processor is a 2.4 then it will definately work, cuz thats what i was using for the longest time until i got my 3.06 this christmas
also do u want me to bring it to the trucks next week to save us both the time and effort of shipping?
