I want to make this
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=466916
i like this guys idea but i dont have the cash for it right now. i also wanna do a shift light between the tach and speedo. anybody have the tools or know where i can go to get a piece of metal cutout to fit the gauges so i can kinda do the whole damn thing myself? i can make the template and have it painted myself for what its worth. even the mounting tabs i can rig off my parts car.

You just have to cut out a plate that is the same size and shape as the stock cluster, and then drill holes for the guages that you want to put in.
Something like this, but much cheaper when you make it yoruself: http://www.covansclassic.com/parts/d...068.44.248.106

craig i have been having problems with my temp gauge and i'd rather play it safe and get better gauges. i dont like the look of pillar gauges so this was the best solution. and the tach will be more accurate as well since i have a lightened flywheel and i'm getting a cam...
not to mention it looks cool

Start reading up on the car's electrical system....
BTW - I just priced out the guages they use. I want Autometer Phantom gauges, and the cost of Covan's blank panel and all the gauges that they use in it are $750 from them, and $560 if you buy it all separate. So you're basically paying $200 for them to install the gauges and wire them up for you.

Yea, I'm sure they are. Hell, the black molded panel with 6 holes punched in it sells for $120, and you know it can't cost them more than $10 start to finish (materials, machine work, human labor....)
