I'm seeing a need for my "own" forum. A place for beer drinkin' and hell
raising. All out WWW brawling, and smack talkin'! A place where you can talk about driving your car 180 MPH, talk about that ricer you destroyed on yer way home from work, and just say WHATEVER is on your mind. A place of NO LOVE FOR HON-DUHS! A place where cuss words don't come out like ***** <-This. So, wadda yas think? If I get the ball will yaz join me in the end zone for a touchdown?

As long as you are paying for the bandwidth, database software and vBulletin you should be good to go.

Wasn't that the point behind the Basement forum?

Instead of spending the time and money building another board, why not just donate a few bucks to the club and thrash the Basement forum?

Or am I unaware of other factors that would make that decision a bad one?

AFAIK there are still strict boundaries to what you can/cannot say in the basement...not to mention the fact that a certain admin would get our money if we paid for access...which doesn't sit well with some members here

but those said members still choose to use that certain admin's website which sounds pretty contradictory to me. it is possible to hold a grudge or a dislike to someone and still be civil...

Yes, because he should foot the bill for everything here. That comment is an insult to everyone that invests their time & hard work into this club. It says that “a certain admin” is more or less a thief, and the other admin & mods are equally guilty because their inaction is tantamount to implicit approval of his actions. Furthermore, if I were “the other admin” I’d be very angry at the obvious lack of respect.

AFAIK you are not a supporting member of the club and therefore have no 1st hand experience regarding the Basement. What are these "strict boundaries" you speak of? No porn? Google Images covers that pretty good. The biggest issue is the language filter; we haven’t been able to turn it off only there yet. Justin is our ‘tech guy’ and could probably figure it out in due time, but the problem is his time has gotten kind of tight recently. We could probably pay someone to do some coding, but wait, we don’t have enough cash because we still have people who expect everything for free.

Dave (and all), the Basement is really the Power Members’ ‘Lounge’, a forum where the members who have decided to help the club exist via financial donation can post up, discuss club stuff, and in general have much more freedom in what they can post in comparison to the rest of the forum. Is it without boundaries? No. Is it looser then the rest of the forum? Absolutely.

You get rights to the Basement as a way to say ‘thanks’ for supporting the club financially. Becoming a supporting member of NJFBOA via the Power Member program costs less then a tank of gas. Maybe give it a whirl….

I have donated a few bux, and I am a member of the basement. But even there I get posts deleted. I'm not here to air dirty laundry, I'm just giving my friends the option of having a place to hang out where they and I can say what we want w/o repercussion.

what "strict" bouncries are there in thebasement? the basement rules are pretty straight forward, no porn and if someone asks you to stop because you are going too far, you are expected to stop.
that doesn't sound like a horribly restrictive rules set to me. there is the side effect of any swear words coming up as *'s because we do not have the ability to distinguish between the specific forums with the software we have. hopefully a software patch will come out at some point o allow us to correct that issue.

as far as who the money goes to, i have put more money than i care to think about into this club and it has benefited many people a great deal. has it benefited me as well, yes, i am happy to say i have made a lot of great friends here. the effect on me finacially is a much different story, i have made many sacrifices for the club and i hope that one day it can pay for itself so that it is no longer restricted by the limits of my personal budget.

sorry that things change over time and the club is no different. we are in a different place with much different goals than when we started out. like any other part of the maturing process, some embrace it and others let themselves be left behind.

enjoy whatever forums you decide to participate in and know that everyone will always be welcome here.
