No tools as in NONE or just the basic sockets/small hand tools ??

And besides swapping head gaskets, what all is needed to do ??

Or more importantly, besides the head gaskets, what else is BROKE that needs to be fixed ? Might help with the right tools brought in....

What made you think your head gaskets are gone ? Coolant covered plugs ??

Crappy overpriced motor swap.

Thermostat got stuck and the housing cracked and steamed like crazy I shut the car down. Had it towed to the shop that did the swap ,they told me it has blown head gaskets and they want more money to fix the problem they caused.

I fought with the guy for 6 months and I finally paid the guy 500 just to give me the car back!
I put new gas in it and started it, tons of white smoke coming from the tailpipes ran for 15 seconds and I shut it down.

The car ran for 6 months, rough but ran, before they put a thermostat in it. Yep they ran the car without a thermostat for 6 months, when they decided to put one in...kapoot.
I dont know what else would have to be fixed besides the headgaskets in this situation, can you think of anything?

FYI. If it overheated bad enough you might have warped the heads. They might need to be shaved. If you don't, the gasket will blow again.

FYI - here's something to consider -

If the heads are warped, possibly shot, then that means that maybe some bearing got wiped as well. Could be a whole can of worms. Not really worth the effort of putting the time and $ into an engine you're going to rebuild soon anyways...

ON THE FLIP SIDE.....

I do have a 74 '350' engine here that I'm trying to sell. I was asking $350 for it, but since you're "in need", I could consider selling it for $300 and I'd deliver it....as long as it'd work for you. Has the pass car heads, as it wouldn't work with the stock truck manifolds I had in my suburban (I have bolted sbc headers to it and they fit). Its in long block form, clean, and painted orange a while back. Would need (possibly) your flex plate and starter (dunno the condition of them now)....maybe the water pump. And your intake and ignition combo. I'd even give you the stand its on so you could store your old motor. Lemme know, I'm free during the week after 'noonish'....

PM / email me if you have any questions....

Keeping my fingers crossed. If it ends up being a total castrophie, ill highly consider taking that motor off your hands if i can get some help putting it in. Of coarse in that case ill have cash for any helping hands. But I really want to just replace the gaskets with some fellow fbody guys and gals and see what happens. If it doesnt work o well we will all be drunk and full!

Well, don't just replace them. At the very least, have a straight edge and feeler gauges on hand and see how flat they are. There is no sense putting it back together with a badly warped head or heads.

Exactly....figure whatever he'd spend on gaskets and other parts for the repairs....then finds out the heads are shot & needing work....which is why I offered my other engine up....I KNOW it'll run...just needs the parts I listed, some plugs, and oil.
*** FREE DELIVERY *** (from out of state no less, and I'd obviously bring the hoist as well).

Don't know where you're going to find running 350's for $300 delivered....

I also have a set of heads off a 67 vette. Double hump heads I just got from a buddy of mine. He says they have a ton of machining screw in studs and some really strong springs. He ran them on his 327 69 camaro and bent a valve not even a mile down the road. I could float test them replace the bent valve and get a new set of RR?

I'd drop those off at the shop FIRST....

Remember, those heads don't have accessory bolt holes in them in case you need some like that as well. And the combustion chamber sizes should be the same. Have you measured them ? And do they 'overflow' your cam and compression ? That'd make your engine a DOG....lazy and slow. Just some things to consider before just throwing parts at it....

I do not work untill monday of next week. Im free tom-sunday. Seeing as I dont have any money untill i get paid in a few weeks and I need this car running to get to work, Im willing to trade my brand new 80 gig ps3, backward compatible with ps2 and blu ray with hdmi cables! A couple games a blu ray movie some ps2 games and some regular movies.

I have 67 vette double hump heads that you would need to have a valve changed, float tested and a set of roller rockers put on.-If you have connections cheap, if you own a shop close to free, if your a shade tree maybe a few hundred bucks?

Head gaskets for a sbc 350.-$50-$75

Help swapping a rear end. $0

Help cleaning a carb.$0

Help installing front struts $0

Some time and labor.

And you got a ps3!- $850

Hey ill even throw in some Beer and Pizza Still!!
