2009 NJFBOA Calendar

Well folks, it's that time of year again! Time to get the ball rolling on our 2009 NJFBOA Club Calendar.

Once again we will be using pictures from all of you to fill the pages of the calendar.

Here is the information you need to consider when submitting your photos:

Quote:
Please make your images as close to 3375 x 2589 pixels or larger. This results in an image about 11" x 8.5" @ 300 dpi and will produce the best results when printed. Images up to 20% smaller will work but may not reproduce as sharp. Basically, you need to use a 7+ megapixel digital camera to attain the required image size, although a 6 megapixel should work as well. Also, when taking photos, please remember that these pictures will be cropped to 8.5" x 11", so leave a lot of room on the edges of the image, because a lot will be taken off. Photos that are cropped too closely will not be eligible. Keep an eye around your car for trash that's not supposed to be in it, we will be able to Photoshop some things out, but want to edit the pictures as little as possible.

Please use this standard when submitting pictures for consideration in the calendar.
There is no set limit on the amount of pictures that you are allowed to submit, but please keep it to a reasonable amount.

Please don't hesitate to send in a few pictures if you don't think that you car is worthy of being a feature car. We try to use as many different member's pics as possible to fill in empty space in the calendar, so go ahead and send in those pics.

All submissions should be emailed to the following address: Pics@njfboa.org

All submissions are due no later than September 20, 2008

Looking forward to seeing everyone's entries!

here are some samples of what we mean about being cropped too closely. These pictures would have been great for the calendar, except that they were cropped too closely. the transparent bars on the sides represent what would be cropped off the original image to make it fit in an 8.5x11

the 3rd image is not as tight as the first two, but is too close for printing because of the margin for error on cutters. make sure that the majority of your image is the car, but please leave room on the sides.

couldn't you trim from the top/bottom to keep the ratio?

no. i would have to ADD to the top or bottom to keep the ratio. 8.5 x 11 is more narrow than the 3:2 aspect of most cameras.

Its like going from wide screen tv to full screen.. if that is an easier comparison.

EDIT, and if you meant on the calendar itself, that adds production cost, as well as additional work for me to redesign the calendar templates. Then each of the days on the calendar would be smaller because they got squished up. Its just easier to say leave extra room

makes sense, but we didn't make any image requirements for COTM, the pictures aren't necessarily the best print quality images, just what looks good on screen.

If you want I can upload all my customers pictures to an FTP like year. I'm going to make a post later in the evening for calendar pictures too.

It's up to them if they want to submit the pics, but if they are interested I can get pics directly from you without a problem.

Justin - I've asked Alex to submit a few of my favorite pics of my car for the calendar. He has all of the raw files so let me know what else you need from me. Thanks Alex!

All you need to know is the dimensions. Both of the pics you posted are 800 x 600, and we need pics as close to 3375 x 2589 as possible (or larger). To see what size your pics are, right click on them and select Properties from the drop-down box.

Also, please don't use this thread to submit pics - email them to the address listed in the first post.

Thanks.

- Justin

tahts a little close on the edges, but if need be the sky or the ground are easy enough to clone to make it fit in the crop

You can send in edited pics, but please send unedited / uncropped originals of them too.

That particular pic is a little tight on the sides, but go ahead and send it in, and we'll see if it will work.

We'd rather get too many pics that don't work than not enough pics that do....
