What gears should I order?
Should I get Richmond 4.10s or Motive performance 4.10s? Tho motives are $189 and the richmonds are 191.
Any opinions?

Motive, Richmond are garbage and whine like a baby. Broke a brand new set on my old 97z.

I think what he means is, if its goign into a 10 bolt, doesnt matter, its a weak rear. putting it under alot of stress ( i.e. drag radials, burnouts, excessive launches) expect them to go bad, and its not jsut the gears that go bad, but the whole unit tends to flex, and so do the caps that hold the housing in, and the axles....yeah same deal, weak, and not enough splines, so it doesnt matter what your putting in, the 10 bolts are 7.5 7.625 diameter, which is very small for our cars, and alot of stress is put on them to rotate them. although I do prefer Motive's myself.

Most installers will have a preference of what they like to work with. Pretty straightfoward.

Installer is my boss and myself so he realy couldn't care any less. I was asking to see if anyone knew any strong points of each.

Thanks I understood what he meant. Richmonds are junk, go on any fbody board. They break teeth and whine terribly. I and a ton of others have seen it first hand. Motive is definately the way to go. Maybe the installer doesnt normally work on fbodies, alot of shops dont but will still install gears.

if richmond was buy 1 get 3 free then i'd say richmond! they do suck, very weak. personally i would not even take richmonds if they were free.

never had a problem with richmonds, running mid 10's on em for 4 yrs on the 5 years same set not a problem.

Motive gears. I'm running the 3:73s in my 10 bolt and the gears are about the only thing that hasn't broken!

I have broken every brand gears out there except for stock chevy gears. My truck has an 8.6 10-bolt and weighs 4800lbs, so I may not be a good point of reference, but I was going 11's with slicks, driving it 70 miles a day, and towing my dad's impala once in a while with stock GM 4.10's and never had a problem with them. Richmond, yukon, and motive...broke all of them more than once.

I believe GM's gears are sourced from either Motive or US Gear.

That's interesting. Gear sets are luck of the draw it seems. I have never tried U.S. gears directly, but maybe that's what the "stock gm" ones are...

Yeah. With the ones you broke- did you do the recommended break-in? I would assume so, but some people don't.
