So who wants to live to be 100?

My one grandmother turns 100 this weekend! She doesn't know it because of her Alzheimer's but she still enjoys a party no matter who it's for. My other grandmother is 98. This started making me worry that I might live that long as well! I'm not sure I want to be around that long!

Interesting topic..

Back in the day, I honestly didnt think i'd make it past the age of 23. Id have to thank my one ex for helping with all that.
And now after seeing how my dad is at 73, many medical issues and a brain injury, i just could not live like that.

I live my life for the moment, i don't worry about my future to the point where ill let it affect what i choose to do today. I wake up every morning knowing that it could be that day... and im ok with it. Ive had a lot of fun, met great people, and helped many as well.
Whenever its my time, im ok with it.

but till then, im gonna keep partying, keep racing lol, and living my life the way i want.

Def don't want to live that long at the mercy of machines or meds. Otherwise, should be interesting to see how F-ed up the world is in 80 years.

OP, that's awesome.

my great grandpa is almost 101. he's always joked about not remembering people's names and who they were so now half the time you can't tell whether he's actually kidding or if he just can't remember. everyone always jokes that he started joking like that years ago on purpose so no one would ever know in case he ever actually forgot. he's a really quick(at times) and tricky guy sometimes so i wouldn't be surprised haha.

he always tells stories about growing up on his farm. pretty crazy how well he remembers things like the day his dad traded in his horse and buggy for a model T, and how his dad couldn't figure out the 3 pedals and ran into the barn with it. "ohhhh the good old days" he says.

i wouldn't mind living 100 years, as long as i'm not in a bed the last 20 of them

I think the exact same way... my Great Aunt lived to be 104. A great uncle lived to be 101. My grandmother is 95, and she still speeds in her little Plymouth Reliant About 6 years ago, she was taking care of my ill grandfather who was suffering from a long staff-infection-related illness. Just picture a very petite 90 year old woman literally carrying a tall, average-built old man around the house. She still shovels snow and rakes leaves to this day. Amazing how some people grow old like that. And Happy b-day to your grandmother

the people of their generation that have lived to be that old were able to do so because their food wasn't tainted with hormones and crazy fertilizers. Their meat and produce was grown locally, nearly "organic" without being labeled so, and their fertilizers were natural not chemical. I'm afraid of what big business, low profit margin/high volumes will do to the health of our generation. Put that on top of preservatives, and quick fixes for everything (think microwave dinners with low quality meat and plastic that permeates the food) We're supposed to be a much more "educated" and "technological" generation now, but how all that and crooked corporations are going to impact our health remains to be seen.

I think that is awesome.

I think it is amazing to talk to people who have lived longer than average lives. It is utterly amazing the technology that they have seen in their life.

I would love to live as long as possible.

I figure, with all the surgeries that I have and all the new parts installed, I will probably live quite long.

I want to live as long as my wifey is there.

Many of them also smoked, ate a lot of fats, didn't go to the doctor, didn't exercise, drank a lot, and were not cautious about their own health. They were also less sedentary. I think with the awareness of more and more health issues today we should be a lot better off when we are older. Regarding the organic food- a collection of over 80 studies of organic food just completed in the EU, and no health benefits were proven in support of eating organically. That's not to say that one shouldn't error on the side of caution and eat organic wherever possible (I do... in fact I try to eat food that has been "processed" as little as possible) but our health systems are just so much better now. Food quality is a small slice of the whole pie. They didn't have biopsies, MRI machines, and neurosurgery growing up- we do.

Congrats and happy Bday to your grandmother Jeff! Like most have said, I'd love to live as long as possible while still being completely functional and of good mind.

I also like hearing stories from the older generations..unfortunately my last living grandparent died when I was just a junior in HS. Now in my 20's I can appreciate more and would love to spend more time with them now talking about their lives.

Well, my grandmother turns 100 tomorrow and my uncle from the other side of the family passed away today. We knew he wasn't doing well and he's had a bunch of health issues so it's not a big surprise. It's tough timing though.
