Aside from the insane amount of money that fleet sales for the new caprice will bring in I wonder if homologation could be a factor?
I would pay to see Australian Supercars wizzing around a super speed way. Me two cents.

I also heard this from a friend thats into racing at school. Said they are making a move to an LS style block either next season or the season after. Me and him have always been the two "theres nothing wrong with carbs" in a class full of honda and Volkswagen fanboys so of course the conversation started with "dude nascar is ditching small blocks and carbs!"
As far as the caprice, sick and I want one but what gives on police only... AND wtf happened to no imports under the new GM. That was their scapegoat reason for not giving us the g8 as the new Caprice remember that bs excuse?

I'll let the cop chase me...it wouldn't last long but old school caprice vs new school would be fun. I want one too.

They probably found some way around it by not offering it to civilians.

******** on the no importing cars.
So you are gunna tell me that the Goverment, which btw owns 60%, is going to tie GM's hands while EVERYONE ELSE gets to import cars?
No, that was never part of any deal. Unions wanted it, but they always wanted.
It might be a reason why its not made in North America...

That was one of the union stipulations dude. They didn't want cars imported that would take work from US UAW employees.

yeah well too bad they only have control of 20% of GM and the union has no idea how to run a car company.
GM can and will do what it takes to return to greatness and return to a public company again. The goverment will make sure that any and all roads are clear to do so outside of doing some Japanese-style "import" trade rules.

Idk whats technical and whats not. All I know is that I read multiple articles shutting down the g8 hopes on terms of no imports under new GM. That be what dem idyots saysd

You don't get it. It doesn't matter how much the UAW or Uncle Sam owns GM...if it was in the "new" contract it's legally binding. Twenty percent UAW control/ownership is irrelevant. That was a major sticking point with the UAW, they wanted that clause in the contract with the "new" GM. I'm not sure what there is to debate, maybe you won't want to hear it because it makes your beloved unions look bad or whatever....but that's part of the reason the G8 is done...well that and Fritz is a hypocritical idiot. He doesn't like re-badged vehicles yet GMC is OK.

No, the only reasoning that came out of Fritz's mouth was that he did not want to sell a rebadge.
The argument is almost as bad as them not bringing Zeta here becaue "it wouldnt work well with CAFE" as that reasoning has also gone by the wayside.

My beloved unions? Are you kidding me? I dont love the union at all.
The idea is that he didnt want to take a car from a dead company and give it to a company that is still part of GM. Yes I know thats a weak excuse, but that was said today by Brent Dewar, VP of Chevy now.
The UAW doesnt want imported cars sold retail wise. Im sure that its a major reason why we wont see a civilian version. But this car is coming here because there will be a giant void in solid police vehicles, and the Charger nor Impala are apparently cutting it. The Caprice will not replace the Impala for the police, but be part of Chevy's offerings along with the Tahoe.

its funny to watch al genuinely get kinda riled up when someone takes a crack at gm. blind faith is still ignorance. dont take it so personally man. its just a company that none of us have anything to do with nor any sticking up for or going against is going to change gm or the unions minds....

You just proved my point, thank you. You're sitting here arguing with me and r0nin saying there was no contract stipulation with the "new" GM as to why the G8 wasn't being imported over. Quoting ownership numbers and saying how the UAW only owns 20% of GM and stuff. The fact is that's the major reason the G8 is dead in any form/trim/nameplate. It sucks. You're right, the UAW wouldn't want the Caprice sold to retail wise, it'd be taking work from them. Regardless of who owns GM they can't just turn a blind eye to a contract clause. I wouldn't doubt that the UAW agreed to allow this cop car since it won't be a huge number of vehicles and is only being sold to a certain sector.

g8 is dead because pontiac is dead. the highlighted point frosty just posted proved EVERYONES point, the caprice is not coming over for retail sales, so there is nothing to argue over

I didnt say that there was a contract that GM cannot import vehicles.
In fact, I belive that they can import a certain amount of vehicles, and anything over a certain amount they have to pay the UAW, something to that fact.
A big import that will show up here is the new Chevy Spark that will be either made in Korea or China even.
And to the UAW, anything from Canada and Mexico is also an import, so there is nothing stated that there can be NO imports.
Zeta cars, either made here or aboard, have always been part of some major debats inside GM
And no Jay, I dont get upset or even remotly put off when people talk "ill" of GM, and no where did anyone talk bad about GM in this thread.
I wasnt upset at any point in this thread.
Getting back to the G8 thing. The UAW might have put a stop to it, but there is no rule or contract saying that GM cannot import vehicles.

I thought the spark production was being moved over here to the States?

No, Aveo is coming to America though. Spark is smaller then Aveo.
Everyone is really kinda excited about the Aveo, and there is apparently going to be a sporty model of every Chevy now that Pontiac and Saturn are both gone.
All of the people of GM Performance Division that have been disbanded have now entered the product development of the 4 remaining brands, on every level.
It wont wear an SS badge, but it will be sporty. They want to take on the Fit and Fiesta.
