Cold Air Intake for a 91

I have a 91 3.1L and i'm trying to find an aftermarket set up since its breathing like **** ... the only thing that came to mind was was making this ( http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...Prod=57-3010-1 ) fit so the filter is by the passenger side headlight. Is there any other option I have when it comes to CAI? Any examples? Thanks in advance...

What style is your current intake? Is it the TPI dual snorkle style? Thats what I had on my '85 2.8

Yeah, its dual snorkle. I'm not using the mass air sensor though (don't have the wiring harness). I actaully had to keep the hold housing in because IAS is sitting on it. When I unplugged it, the car started sputter, as best as I can remember..

Did you gut the factory airboxes? That makes a good improvement in flow.

was your car origonally MAF?

No, it should be speed density, IIRC.

It did not come MAF, IAS is located on the air filter house. I know its CAI already, but when I placed my hand under the filter, I felt little to no suction. This could be due to the filters being dirty; maybe if I go with a K&N set of filters that would help? I was also thinking if I do a snokel setup that goes down towards the vents...

The FIPK would cost me around $200 plus some extra PVC tubing...

at idle you will not feel any vacume from the intake ductings. Best bet is to just change the filter(s) Either that, or you can custom make your own with a series of HVAC, and some plumbing connections

Keep your current intake setup. HardcoreZ28 is still using that stock intake setup with his 383, and it doesn't appear to be holding him back.

I say grab some K&N's for it and gut the airboxes.

Well, I was opening the throttle body while sticking my hand under the filter and didn't feel much. For right now, I'm going to try the K & N filters and get some **** from hope depot and maybe make a ram air setup ...thanks for your help guys, I'll keep you updated...

if you mean did I cut off the silencers off, then yeah I did that, and removed the honey comb in the mass air unit sensor... I need to do a little better of a clean up job around the edges w/ a dremel though.

I'd throw some K&N's in there and make a ram air setup. A previous owner of my car did this..K&N's and did some work with PVC pipe that goes from behind the fog lights up to the filters in the dual snorkel. At idle I can hear the air being sucked in..so I know it works well. Eventually I'd like to change the PVC for some of that dryer ducting so it's lighter and I've seen on TGO guys using some other dryer ducting material that fills in the whole area behind the fog lights so it actually scoops more air.

From the bottom of the airbox to behind the fog lights, mine is PVC pipe. I'd like to get rectangular air conditioning "plumbing" so I have more volume of air moving to the intake.

Yea its almost the same concept. Except the one you pointed out is alot cleaner and less messy, plus its for TPI. The pic I posted above is for TBI or Carb. Thats looks mighty sweet tho
