got a red light violation in NJ. need advice.

When the light changed from yellow to red I passed and got a ticket.
Thing is about a yaer ago, I got a ticket and I avoided getting points by paying double fine.
There is this new type of fine in NJ which says that you can pay one time $400 fine and not get ticketed but within two years you get ticketed again you will get double points. Any one familiar with this?

I am going to see prosecutor and up to how many points do you think I can reduce by negotiation?

You might want to consider consulting with an attorney... typically initial consultations are free (if they're not... you might want to find another attorney lol). Unfortunately, I am not too familiar with the whole "pay double fine, get no points" thing, but what I can tell you is that the traffic laws and fines have been changing dramatically within the past 4 years since I first got my license (I'm 21 now). My father's a retired cop and I keep two lawyers on retainer, so I used to know quite a deal about traffic violations (not much anymore, I've taken it down a notch behind the wheel).

Best advice I can give you, consult an attorney on this one. They will know the best, and most up-to-date skinny on any variations of the new laws.

it's a no-point statute. i believe you can get it twice in your entire life. after that, you're screwed....they immediately put 4 points on your license in addition to whatever the violation is. that's after you have used the no-point thing twice.

some towns may give you a hefty fine, and no points, with the warning that if you do something wrong in their town again, they'll double the points. this isn't a state law, but a town-to-town thing. if the town you ran a red light in is the same one that you got the first ticket in, you may be in for some trouble.
