1979 Camaro...What's This One Worth?

Hey all,
A very good friend of mine put together a '79 Camaro for his son. His son is in the Marines now, and wants to buy a C5 Z06 when he gets out next year. They bought the '79 knowing it was as a Z/28 clone; it has the steel Z/28 rims on it, correct fender vents, and spoiler, but the dash is not correct. The hood is a 1980 functional cowl hood. It's got some rust issues (lower right front fender, trunklid, and hood) but overall the car presents well and the bright blue paint looks great from 10 feet away. It's got a black interior; new carpet, headliner, and custom door panels. The seats are decent, but should be recovered. They were tan and dyed black to match the interior, and the fronts are kind of ratty now.

The drivetrain is where it gets interesting. It's got a mild 454 with a Comp 280 cam and an Edelbrock 750 carb. It still has a stock cast-iron intake, and cast-iron exhaust manifolds. The rest of the exhaust is gutted cats and that's it; no mufflers, because his son wanted the car to be loud. It's got straight pipes out the back. The trans is a Muncie 4-speed, with 3.73s in the rear. I dunno what clutch is in there.

Bottom line - what's this car worth? I haven't a clue, and looking at the late 2nd gens on Ebay makes my head spin. They're selling from $1000 up to $15K on that site. Help!

A solid late 2nd gen seems to run 2500-4500. Really nice or low mileage unmoested cars go higher, over 10k. Since that is just a regular camaro with incorrect badging and so forth, with some rust issues, I'd guess w/o seeing it the lower end of that, maybe 2500-3500. A lot depends on the rear frame rails, the interior, etc. Got pics?

I paid 3500 for mine in Aug 05 and mine may be in similar or better shapoe, and is a real Z (a rarer 77 to boot).

I don't have pics yet, but I can snap some this weekend if Mother Nature cooperates. The car is not far from mi casa. I'll post 'em when I have 'em. Thanks for the reply!

I'd say Bozo is in the ballpark on price. 2500-4500 seems about right.

For some reason I thought you were buying it. Oh sure, ask for the sun if you are helping sell it.
