anyone plan on getting on, whether it be lease or buy? im interested on getting one, but not sure what the pricing plans will be for certain models, and i am wondering about how much insurance will be, since i'll only be 21.

dont really want one. and thats not the car u wana lease cars like that dont lease well. as far as pricing wait till GM would give a special finace rate on it, they always do, insurance will be alot no doubt lol

yea, right now just liability only i pay around 2700, for an 89 silverado and my 88 iroc

i may buy 2, one stripper v6 daily driver version and then a top of the line version the second year. i was 21 when i bought my SS brand new, first year insurance was 4500 full coverage, now i pay like 300 liability for the year

If it is any comparison, that is what I pay for insurance on 3 DDs, 2 with full boat coverage and 100/300 liability limits, and liab only on my truck.

Call your ins company and find out what coverage for a similar mustang would cost you, that should be a good comparison.

I'm lining up for a 2011 model.

The 2009 model year Camaros will probably be marked up a lot by dealers so you may want to consider that in your actual cost to own/lease one.

If they want to sell I dont think there will be a mark up on them especially the v6 models. If they do mark them up it will probably will be the top on the line model only. The dealer will probably have a bunch of V6 models and only one or two V8 models.

There will be dealers ready to sell at list. Im sure that a place like Kerbeck and other large Chevy retailers will sell at msrp. There will be a national list of dealers falling in line, and they will get the business.

i don't see any dealership selling at least the first several months at sticker. it took the dealerships 3 years to figure out that not everyone is willing to pay thousands over sticker for a "market price adjustment" on the GTO and it wasn't half as anticipated as the new Camaro.
the first model year is also planned to be a ramp up production run, which means those who want and have the most to spend will be the ones that the dealerships will be picking off first.
hell, look at what some of the bigger chevy dealers have already sold the right to order a camaro for. i have heard up to 15k just for the right to order the damn thing, that is nuts.
not saying i agree with screwing over buyers like this, but it isn't illegal and GM has shown no signs of stopping the practice on any other models, so i doubt they are going to suddenly start

That's very true Tim, there will be plenty of dealers marking them up. But not all of them will, and what Al is saying is that many of the forums will have lists of those dealers, and enthusiasts can purchase from them rather than from the local price gouger.

Same thing happened with many other new releases.....I remember reading the lists of dealers on the Solstice boards that promised to sell at MSRP.

GM can't do much to stop it, they'd run afoul of anti-trust laws.

not really, they have no haggle pricing on saturns.
also it isn't an antitrust issue because there is an other wise competitive market. price fixing as a mark of anti-trust only counts if you have all or a controlling percentage of the market, something no company can currently claim.

The no haggle pricing structure is built in to the contract. Im not sure how Saturn gets around it exactly, but its working and Saturn's customers enjoy the lack of hassle and usuall sleezeball salespeople they deal with when buying cars.
I recently visted a few dealers, all makes, and the Saturn dealer was by far the least shark in the water out of all of them. There werent 10 of them sitting outside, smoking cigs, waiting for blood...

but it also irritates people like my father who want to haggle because they are good at it and like to argue.

I know I've read it more then once, but I'd have to go look it up. IIRC, it comes down to contracts and dealer competition. With Saturn, all dealers agreed to it up front, but that cat was out of the house many years ago with the other lines. For other lines they would all 1st have to have contracts to do it or I believe the dealers could sue GM for unfair trade (why can dealer A markup but we can't?). Someday when I get time I'll look it up. So expect an answer in 2057.

when i sold nissans the nismo Z had a 5000 "market adjust"
at ford the shelby GT500 is 20,000 over
the shelby GT is 10,000 over
at dodge sold some daytona edition rams and or chargers were 1000 over

certain dealers have already said they will not charge more than MSRP for it. There is a dealership in s.jersey somewhere that has said 500$ gets you on the waiting list and that puts you in line. If you are the 25th person on the list then you get to order, to your specs, the 25th '10 Camaro that the lot orders and when it comes in you get first chance to inspect and purchase, if you don't like they refund your deposit and sell it to someone else. There's a dealership in Dearborn that has a waiting list 1K deposit they will order the Camaro to your specs and only charge you MSRP (your deposit is deducted from the MSRP price) then ship it to the dealer of your choice.

This was my response from them regarding Dealer Markup-

Thanks for your request in regards the 2009 Camaro. It is our policy to limit our pricing on "hot" products to the actual MSRP. We do have a small waiting list. $500.00 deposit required. Cars will be offered in order of Deposit.

So, I had to ask about that deposit (I know a lot of people don't think we should put down a deposit, but I had to ask). My followup eMail was this-

I do have a couple questions now though.

1- Does this deposit hold whatever vehicle arrives on the lot? Or does it guarantee the ability to order to my own specifications? (I personally wish to order my Camaro.)

2- Is this deposit refundable if, when details are released, the buyer decides to wait a bit longer to purchase? Or, God forbid, they decide they are unhappy with the production model and don't wish to purchase at all?
