Does anyone here buy/trade stocks online?

I have a little lump sum I got from unemployment, I was thinking of investing it instead of starting a "I want a LS1 WS6 fund". What site(s) do you guys use?

I was thinking of taking a chance and investing a few hundred bucks in GM hoping things work out.

Are there any tips and/or experiences you can share?

I'm only going to play with $500-1000, not talking about a huge sum of money.

Thanks!

Yikes!! Your going to try and invest into GM? Talk about risk taking. I am curious on the response you get on this though. I was thinking about investing some funds...i guess i am waiting for some words of wisdom. good luck in your investing

IIRC, Kasey does something with financial stuff. And FYI, investment could be for a WS6, house, retirement, or anything

I'm only talking about like $200 or so(regarding GM).

I'm more concerned with trading online in general. I have some stock market knowledge and I figured I'd play with a few bucks and see what happens.

i do on my fathers account. i wouldn't invest money that wasn't part of a plenty because the first couple of transactions tend to be losers. everything is going down. just when you think things cant get worse, they seem to fall apart. we owned washington mutual and that was a lost cause. we had ford and that went down so we sold it before it went any further, which it did.

we switched all our investments to real estate. i know this doesn't help you at all, but its really down and now is the time to buy. just to give you an idea of what the market is like right now. i dont want you taking any risks, especially with such crappy odds

Buy Ford, Id say hold off on GM for another few months. If by the first delivery of a Camaro all is well and the banking stops being a PITA with getting loans, then Id invest. GM's stock should still be under 10 bucks.

Right now, Ford is a good buy, and something Im looking to invest in soon. At this price....its gunna be good.

You're an ass.
First off, belive it or not I like a lot of cars that ARENT GM. That doesnt mean I like Ford, but they seem to have some sort of perceptiable progam that people might be interested in. Where GM uses advanced technology and hybrids that no one seems to give a crap about, Ford is going to bring its Euro models here, and build them in thier truck plants that are sitting there, increasingly idle.

bringing european models over doesn't guarantee sucess... see astra, aura, contour, etc... the idea is to not change them too much from their european counterparts, and keep the price down, and guarantee the company wont go out of business, and prove them to be up to par with their foreign counterparts. remember, perception lags reality so it will take a while for the big 3 to gain on the toyotas and hondas of the world

Agreed to a point.
Astra was botched and to this day, is still being botched. In the days of 4 dollar gas there was a 300 day supply of them while Lordstown plant that made Cobalts added a 3rd shift.
Aura isnt european at all. It took Opel's design theme, thats it.
Up to this point, Ford nor GM can make the move without fumbling. But Mullaly seems to have a tight grasp on things.
Problem is...when that Euro Focus gets here, who the hell is gunna pay near 30k for a loaed Focus?
Ford already said that they are gunna cost more. People are gunna have to start adjusting thier idea of what is affordable.
GM will be building the world Cruze here, which so far looks amazing in and out. It will slowly replace Cobalt.
IMO, GM has the best plan out of the 3 of them. Its perception that Ford is doing better that the market will understand, thats all. Wall Street doesnt understand cars. They understand perception.

I am not a Ford guy and actually hate Fords but I have to agree with BigAl.

GM has too many dogs to good car ratio and will get dragged down.
Ford has a smaller line up with better sellers in the mix.

Whoa...didnt say that.

GM has a lot of great cars, and they clearly out number Ford. Ford has good cars, and in some cases they have some class leading segments.
Sure, GM has some cars that dont match up with the best, and I could probably have a thread long list and rip every single one of them apart, but my point is that perception wise, Ford has a better plan then GM.
