To show you how bad GM gets...

Most know that I love GM and stick up for them pretty much all the time. I have been "keeping the faith" about a future Camaro, and look foward to future product.....but this one takes the ******** cake...

Quote:
Who’s afraid of Mustang?
Ford's new Mustang may be getting rave reviews, but a key competitor says it isn't worried. Chevrolet marketing director Jim Campbell says the bow-tie division can cover that segment with the four-cylinder, supercharged Cobalt SS and Monte Carlo. "The Monte Carlo is capturing part of that market," Campbell says, pointing out the coupe's success on the NASCAR circuit.
How does this guy walk and sit down with balls so friggin big? How can you possibly compare the Monte Carlo or Cobalt SS to the Mustang?

Horrible....just horrible.

GM is f***ing pathetic. Instead of listening to what we want, they're cramming what we DON'T want down our throats.

How on God's Great Green Earth is a FWD 240hp Monte "SS" or FWD 200hp Cobalt "SS" better than a 300hp RWD Mustang? Maybe he's thinking the Chevy cars can compete with the V6 Mustang?

To me, both of the Chevy offerings are un-inspiring. The GTO is a much better comparison for the 'Stang, and is fairly close price-wise. At least the GTO has Right Wheel Drive and a V8 snorting under the hood!

hahahahahahahaha......

This guy must be dragging his balls on the ground. Seriously....there's no way that the Cobalt or Monte Carlo will ever compete with the Mustang. They're not even in the same class. Honestly, I could care less about NASCAR when it comes to vehicular performance. Even then, the NASCAR Monte Carlo is nothing like the regular one. It's V8 and RWD, while the street version is a FWD V6.

Bring back the Camaro, godammit. stop screwing around.

2-3 years ago, i had pretty much no faith in gm whatsoever, but I'd say that things are starting to look a bit more promising for the future. Make no mistake, there's a lot of room for improvement though. They started on a decline in the mid 90's, and just kept pissing me off from there. Getting rid of the impala/caprice platform, dangling stuff like the syclone and typhoon in people's faces for a couple years but not carrying it over to the new model, coming out with an amazing showcar like the pontiac GPX, and then severely watering it down to come out with the 97 grand prix gtp because the trans they had sucked a dick. Then by the time the f-body was discontinued, I was no longer a fan at all of GM. In fact at the time I bought my GTP in 2000, it was the only new gm vehicle at all I would have considered owning, and it was not even my top choice really, it just wound up making sense at the time given circumstances.

However gm is slowly but surely starting to turn that around, and by the end of this decade i think things will be back on track for the most part. The problem right now, and what brings comments like that in al's post about is that GM absolutely does not have comparable products to competitors, and they can't admit their current lineup is **** for fear of pissing off too many customers. So while I see why comments like that are made, it is laughable. Hopefully the "dark ages" of gm are coming to an end.

I for one would rather drive a Cobalt SS or Monte Carlo SS than drive a mustank any day of the week, cuz i hate FORD and anything they produce and i'm glad that he stands behind his companies products whether he can back it up or not is a different story

Long live the American Revolution

Later,

Santos

I would also drive either car over a Mustang...but the problem is that its NOT a CAMARO!

Oh...and guess what. The guy, Mr.Cambel...you know what his job USED to be? Brand Manager for the Fbody.
Scary huh?

I have quickly lost "the faith", and without Mr.Setlimire to talk to, I am very sad.
This is what is killing GM. Its not the top brass, because they seem to be very enthusiastic about MANY cars, and its not the engineers because they would love it...its the middle men. Its the middle managment that is ******** everything with no lube, and then moving on to the next. This is what is killing GM.
We can only hope that Lutz bitch-slaps this fool.

i don't know what's up with you guys. I'd have to drive it first, but i'd say there's a 90% chance i'd take the mustang over a cobalt or a monte carlo in a second.

gm started this decision making pattern a long time ago. they noted the success of teh japanese and european companies and went in that direction. the jap tuner market is where you get all your cobalts and ions from and teh european cruiser market is where you get the concept for cars like the GTO from.
look at gm's history, they have always been slow to respond. there used to be ways around it with a COPO order form, but gm closed up those loop holes in the early 70's.
gm will eventually be making a full line up of cool again, you jsut have to wait 5-10 years after everyone else has done it

Its not that GM was behind...its that GM, as was everyone else, were heading into other direction where the cheaper, and more gas-friendly imports were going.
In the 50's and 60s, GM not only was ahead of the curve, they WERE teh curve. Cars like the Tri-Fives, Corvette, Impala, GTO, etc...they all set the pace or created the pace.
Thats what GM needs to do. Not chase after, but make cars that will make cars like the Camry, Accord, etc, seem outdated before they hit the showrooms.
GM will never be as fast as Toyota or Honda, just because of its HUGE size. GM needs to look ahead, and not benchmark cars out now.
