Hadn't thought about that until you mentioned that. How high up do you have to reach, from bucket seats, to shift that thing?

If you dont have the boot on it looks 10x's taller.

When I had one with my Old T/A I thought it was relativly the same height as an Auto but Im not really sure, when it is in Park position its apears tall, but once you get it into drive or lower gears, the angle makes it smaller; at least thats what I thought. Sitting with my seat back like a ricer I still had a nice grip on it.

I have no problem getting to it as transam4life said after its out of park the angles perfect.

transam4life- how hard was it to wire that up and did you put that relay in like they said to get from radio shack?

When I bought the complete kit, it had all the relays I needed. It was really simple the kit had a color code thing thats about it, and the relays screwed right up onto the shifter, just had to match the colors from the old shifter onto the relays, we played with the switches first OFF the shifter, to make sure we had all the right lights going off when their supposed too.

I never thought of my megashifter as being big or too tall... Although they're kinda cheaply made and the installation bracket is moronic. Why do they make you drill 2 new holes when theres 2 original holes right next to 'em? Were they too lazy to measure that out and design it so it bolts in using all the original locations?

what purpose does an aftermarket shifter serve on an auto?

It looks phat yo!!!

But seriously, if you have a built combo, manually picking gears can get you better times at the track. The Megashifter is a ratchet shifter, so once it is in a forward gear, you can smack it as hard as you want, and it will only move up one gear at a time.

Usually you have to combine it with a manual valve body in an auto trans to get it to snap into gear quicker, instead of the typical 700r4's lazy 1-2 shift.

My SLP shift kit (long since been discontinued) is a fully automatic valve body but it holds and shifts nearly instantly when you move the shifter. The higher the line pressure (higher the engine RPM) the harder it shifts and seemingly the faster it shifts. I can hold 1st gear to 3k and upshift into 2nd and it'll chirp the tires :P , put it into 2nd and it'll shift hard but not as hard as if I moved the shifter myself, same with the other gears. Put it into OD and it feels completely stock with firm shifts to keep the ladies happy .
I love the idea of the ratchet shifter but seeing as there is only one for the 700r4 they've taken the stance of "why do we need to build it better." They are cheap and that's the big turn-off for me. Well that and the shifter handle. I hate those t-grips with a passion. Sure it's a big target but if you hit it on one end you'll just spin it off. For me, there is nothing sexier than a simple ball shifter be it auto or stick. It's comfortable and gives excellent feedback into the palm where as the t-grip is like an extra "oh ****" handle.
Love the idea, hate the design.
