rear? gears? TC?

Im looking for a posi rear, I dont want some thing to expensive but I dont want a cheap rear that I cant get parts for and will break every sec., I would like to run 4.10's what trans gears do i need to adapt the spedo? I also am wondering about a TC. I dont care about milage cause the car will never be daily driven(while i own it) and my plans are for a vortec 350 sprayed with a 100 shot.

K, dont think its daily driven as it is If your serious about this one, 4.10's on an automatic is insane, unless its a v6, or your switching to the T5 like uve said in another thread which IMO is pretty dumb. In an automatic, on a highway your gonna be doing 70 at @4100 RPMS ... You'll basically have no top end... Highest I'd go is 3.73s which is what I have in my car now... and maybe for your car, a 10 bolt might hold up pretty well... you might wanna have some baseline HP/TQ #'s before you choose the appropriate TC.

as for gears...what trans? whats the powerband? as for rear...low 11s your probably gonna have no choice but to go with a 9" or 12 bolt unless you want to go through rears faster than you change your mind about setups...

4.10's are fine gears for daily driving, doesn't really matter what trans is in the car.
for maximum performance you want whatever gear will allow the engine to be passing peak power just as you get to the traps. best gear for driving is completely up to you, but plenty of peopel drive around with a bunch of gear everyday without problems.
you can also easily make a 7.5 10botl live happily under an 11second car. you just have to put good componenets in it. go to TGO and look at teh tech articels about building up a 10bolt.

stout 10 bolt would consist basically of an eaton posi or detroit trutrack, moser axles, cclip eliminators, welded axle tubes, rear end girdle with studs

Pick a cam and powerband... If low 11's is your goal and you went with 4.10's you'd be crossing the finish line around 5800-6000RPM if you used a 28" tall tire.

On a car with OD it wouldnt be too bad. 4:10s in my car (with a **** TH350) turns 4800 RPMs at 65-70 MPH

You’re a crackhead. Either that or you are a schizophrenic woman, they way you change your mind on a whim.

If you want to have drag car that runs 11s without all the trouble of emissions, etc., sell that 3rd gen and go buy a pre-cat Nova (or other GM equivalent). Small, light, cheap.

Where did you get that number from?

700R4 with 245/50/16s and 4.10s = 2700 RPM @ 72 mph in OD.

4100 RPM = 109 mph.

I have been tempted lol however I dont want the hassle of shoehorning one of those in there the first time around. and also I got the LT1 for it for free so, a bit of the $ i would have to spend is already taken care of. BBC+1963 Chevy II is not something I really want to take on right now. I already have to figure out how to get a 426 HEMI between the fenders of a 1933 Plymouth very soon

say you have a car that runs 16.6 na and 3.08 gear ratio what would it run with 3.73's and what would it run with 4.10's?

That question is impossible to answer without a good guess of HP and peak RPM. I'll tell you one thing... it'll either run faster or slower, but not the same.

your goals are not very realistic. you want to run low 11's, yet you've never raced before in your life. You should probably wait until you start driving before you get a car capable of those times. The last thing I want is a new driver with a nitrous car gunning for low 11's.

you also say you dont want a full on drag car, but you dont plan on driving it that much. If thats the case, why not make it a drag car. you dont have to trailer a drag car and this way you could optimise it for the track. and drag cars win car show trophies too ya know!

im with ian on this one, i used to want an 11 sec car when i first started to drive but im glad i started out with a bone stock l69 87 monte ss the carwas a tank but for a new driver it helped me learn how to drive rwd and to just learn.. then i took a step up to my 78 camaro which had a mild 350 never ran the car at the track but it had more power and it got more experiance. then i bought a intergra from my sisters bf and well that this was almost killed me, i thought i was god in it, it had full suspension with some minor bolt ons, for what it was it moved but i thought it could handle anything witht eh suspenion till i crashed it...finally i took the step up to the 11 sec car, i got a 92 rustang had alot done to it and i did more work to it part recently put down 413rwhp and it is a ride taht i still have trouble handling but i want more so im uping my boost for more power 48xrwhp,

your always gonna wanna go faster but i learned one thing in my journey, dont think you can handle an 11sec car before you have driven a 13sec car those 2 secs are more than you think.
