yea convertible should add some good weight, and is that weight measured for the V6 or V8? Two more cylinders, an auto trans, some big 21s or 22s, and all the body molding should be a good bit more than the base V6.

Considering the weight of cars these days, 3750 is not too bad.

"but the Camaro is a porker, weighing in at more than 1,700kgs."

Im guessing the weight was measured on a bare bones V6. Looks like the Camaro and the Challenger will be about the same weight after all.

Yeah jeeze. It dont seem to be too much lighter than a Challenger. Still a tank vs a 4th gen or vette.

SS will get the 6.2, the Z28 will get the supercharged one.
Z28 is still on. It has not been canceled. All info saying so is false and should be removed.

Red...ohhhhhhhhhhh I just came
3700lbs V8 car making as much power as teh 4200lb SRT8 for THOUSANDS (ten or more) less.
**** you Challenger, **** you inthe mouth.

3700lb rating is for the SS, not the V6.
V6 will be 100lbs or so less.

For 6 years, all the nay sayers are silenced.

  • All of the leaked photos are of the RS model which is a performance package for the V6 Camaro.
  • The RS package includes 20″ wheels, projector HID headlamps with BMW-inspired halos, tinted taillight lenses and a rear ducktail spoiler that are also found on the SS.
  • The V6 cars carry 12.6-inch vented front rotors and 12.4-inch vented rear rotors with single-piston calipers. 14-inch plus Brembos are standard on the SS.
  • The curb weight for the V6 Camaro is around 3,700lbs.
  • The curb weight for the SS is 3,900lbs.
  • LS and LT are models for V6 cars only and have varying equipment.
  • The interior has Chevrolet bowtie blue LED lighting, including the door panels.
  • Multiple interior accent colors will be available including orange.
  • The SS will have the hood scoop from the concept.
  • The LS3 SS is EPA rated at 15mpg city and 23mpg highway.
  • The V6 Camaro is EPA rated at 18mpg city and 27mpg highway.
  • Option the SS with an automatic transmission and you will get the new L99 V8 with cylinder-deactivation and it makes a little less power than the LS3 which is standard on the SS with a manual.
  • Limited-slip is standard on all SS Camaros and V6 models with manual transmissions.
  • The manual SS has a 3.45:1 rear gear set.
  • The automatic SS has a 3.27:1 rear gear set.
  • All Camaros feature asymmetrical or staggered half-shafts in the rear suspension to quell wheel-hop, just like the new LSA CTS-V and LS9 Corvette ZR1.
  • Camaros with the automatic transmission have rev-matching shifts and the SS with an automatic features paddle shifters.
  • The supercharged LSA Camaro is still in the works featuring the Corvette’s self-adjusting dampers with Magnetic Ride Control.
  • The front struts and a rear independent multilink setup are from the Holden Commodore/Pontiac G8 sedan.
  • The Camaro’s structure is 112.3 inches and 2.5 inches shorter than the Holden Commodore/Pontiac G8 it is made out of.
  • The SS features front and rear antiroll bars that are almost an inch larger in diameter than those of the V6 as well as stiffer springs and more aggressive damper settings. The suspension was tuned on Germany’s Nurburghring.

I highly doubt the SS will be ten thousand less than the SRT8, especially considering dealer markup.

"# The curb weight for the V6 Camaro is around 3,700lbs.

not much difference to the Challenger. ~100 pounds for the V6 and ~200 for the SS to SRT8.

SS will be the "base" V8 model, starting at or around 30k.
Z28 will be the top model, priced somewhere around GT500/SRT8 numbers.
Even if you optioned up the SS, it would probably still end up being several thousand dollars less.

God this car is Amazing. I am going to have to go into some serious debt come First quarter 09.

GT500 is a lot more than an SRT8. SRT8 is 41k, GT500 is 54k.

I didnt think that the GT500 was up that high. I thought it was mid 40's starting, with teh vert going into 50k land.
the Z28 will be the car to have. If rumors are right (and that info I posted confrims), the Camaro will get the same selective magnetic adjustable suspension that is in the ZR1, CTS-V, as well as similar variants in cars such as the Ferrari 599 GTB, Audi TT, and several other vehicles. This system can turn the shocks from soft riding civilian driver one min, to super road track ready the next.
I hope that Z28's price is kept down, but that car has the potential to be a potent car, and I think that Camaro Z28 will easily outdo the Challenger SRT8 and GT500 in every single performance test by a good margin
I think that once the SS shows up in car rags, and tests against the SRT8, it will read much like the current G8 GT vs Charger RT reading.

Im really really gunna need a new job...soon.

I weighed my Z today. Its 3300 lbs without the spare and a near empty tank, other than that no weight reduction. Seems like a pretty big jump in weight to go up to the 2 ton mark.
