WTB Dodge Daytona (87-91 era)
looking for a new DD when i get back, but figured i should start looking now since its pretty specific...
There are a few models/years i'd consider... Ill start with most preferred..
-1991 Daytona (V6 with factory bodykit) PREFFERRED
-1989-1990 Shelby Daytona(White/grey ext. w/sunroof ideal)
-1987-1988 Shelby Z Daytona
If its a shelby or shelby z model, tranmission MUST be manual. Engine in them were 2.0L intercooled turbo.
With the 91, id prefer automatic.(black ext. with grey int. would be ideal!!!)
Id also like ttops on the shelbys.
The car could be in need of some work, ie, needs motor, need trans, need bodywork...
JUST NO RUSTBUCKETS, these cars are known to rot.
I do NOT want a 84-86 Turbo Z daytona, UNLESS it is ttops and in great shape and a great price.
LET ME KNOW WHATS AROUND>>>>>>> thanks in advance
and btw, i have owned a 84 Turbo Z (2-2-Turbo1) and a ttop 87 Shelby Z (2-2-turbo2) so i know a bit about them.
I'll even consider trading my 86kmile 1999 Denali for the ideal Daytona....

A southern car would be your best bet for no rust.

when i was 16, and my friend turned 17, he got a 91 black es, v6 auto, i loved riding in that car, we caused some much havoc back then, well that car got t-boned and totalled. All in all it was my first real experiences with cars.
in 1998, while rocking my caddy STS, i saw a friend of a friend with a white 89 shelby. 5spd turbo II(intercooled). i imediately wanted it. i started talking to him about the car and turned out he wanted to get rid of it. it so happened i had a built 84 z28 i no longer wanted. we decided just to trade cars, an even swap. it was perfect. the day before we were gonna swap titles, he sold it. but he ended buying my z28 still. We became good friends then and hes currently one of my 2 best friends still. however, i still bitch at him about selling it... lol
then in '01, i came across and bought an 84 turbo z daytona just as a beater, close to the 89 and 91, but still not exactly, it was 5spd, non-intercooled turbo, and sunroof. i later sold it when the head gasket went.
few months later, i found a red/gray '87 with a rebuilt motor, 5spd ttops, intercooled, for cheap with clutch and other issues. i grabbed it. after messing with starters clutch cables and rust, i gave up. parted it out, i still have the ttops to this day.
Since then ive always had an eye out for a shelby z or shelby daytona w/ttops 5spd and turbo II motor.
84-86 were a lil different body style cool, but not too sleek. called turbo z
87-88 were "shelby z" models
89-91 were just "shelby"
90-91 had updated interior/dash
92-93 were called iroc & iroc r/t's. they had fixed headlights and more rounded bodies which i dont like.
if i pick up the 87 i found on ebay... it needs paint so a quick maaco job will do, itd become white/gray, and id do the jams myself eventually.
currently, it lookes identical to the 87 i had, red/gray.
it also has a 2.5l motor swapped in, srt4 intercooler, performance ecu, boost controller, 3" turbo back, lowered...

im pretty sure ill pick up the one i saw on ebay
even though its an 87, it was converted to 89-91 style bumpers and ground effects, a huge plus in my book...
plus it comes with extra fenders, hood, ttops, original 2.2l engine block...

to just give visual references...

I sold my 86 C/S for 500.00 back in May.. I had a 87 that I sold for 750.00 back in March also.. That was a shelby with t-tops.. They are really fun cars that are not seen at all anymore.. I too am always looking for a 90-91 Shelby Daytona's.. My second car in Highschool was a 88 Daytona.. Thats when I really started to love those cars.. Check out www.turbododge.com.. There are always Tubo K cars on there..
And they were 2.5 liter Non intercooled turbos and 2.2 intercooled turbos..
