pinion seal?

im having a problem with my 2000 ws6, whenever im in a gear without giving it gas or in neutral it makes this painful clunking noise. i only drove it about 2 miles to get it home with this sound going on, threw it up on jackstands and saw that the driveshaft felt loose and the rearend was leaking from the pinion seal. i got he seal and am going to replace it as soon as time permits with my work schedule, but does anyone have any idea about the driveshaft having play in it? everything up on the trans side looks fine, and the u-joints dont appear to have any damage. im just nervous that getting it home ****ed something up inside the rearend...

Sounds like you damaged the pinion bearings. Usually if there is enough play that you can feel it the ring and pinion are hurt as well.
