ford trans issue

ok well my 92 bronco has 174k on it and yesterday i felt it kick in and out of gear. today it felt almost as if it went from gear into neutral for a few seconds as when i was giving it gas it was just making the rpm increase as the speed went down.

should i bother trying to change the trans fluid and filter this weekend or just take it some where to have the trans rebuilt?

this is the E4OD trans.

hey justin i checked the fluid today it seemed to look ok for being old trans oil. it didnt smell like it was burnt but im not 100%. this is all i can tell you from it acting up.

the other day i drove to work. truck ran perfect. on the way home i got off 295 and was around the corner from my house (probably about 20 mins into my drive at this point) and i felt the truck kinda buck a little like it kicked out of and back into gear. this was probably in Overdrive i was doing about 55mph
(thought maybe kicking in and out of lockup. but wasnt sure)

today same thing ran great on my way to work. and about 20 mins into my drive home i was stuck in some traffic. i was going about 5mph and pushed on the gas pedal and the rpms just went up like it was in neutral. i let out the throttle and back on and it was fine.

both of these only happened for a couple seconds but it was enough to make me nervous about the trans.

i was planning on dropping the pan tomorrow just to get a better idea on how the fluid really is and if there is any junk in the fluid
