My dads a retired cop and i know alot of older ones. I do think alot of the young ones can be arrogant but they have to deal with a lot of arrogant people. So I understand where they are comming from. For the most part if your getting a ticket you derserve it. I drive like a normal human being 95% of the time. If im getting a ticket for sommething stupid im gonna be strait up honest and take it like a man. To many kids cry about being idiots and feel like they were being harrased but you have to see where they cop is comming from before any judgments can be made.

Well my fiance is trying to become a New York City Police officer and his father is a Hamilton Police detective and I have only gotten one ticket and that was for doing 120 in a 55. And I had both and FOP card and a PBA card but I knew I was DEFFINATELY in the wrong so I didn't even bother using either of them. My dad (a laywer) was able to talk the prosecuter into lowering the ticket to a 55 in a 35. $80 fine no points. The other times I got pulled over :4 for speeding, 1 for running a red light (which didn't happen) and 1 for no inspection sticker. All of which I received no tickets and my PBA card was taken from me twice. All in all.....cops arnt tooo bad...in my opinion.

I have many friends who are in law enforcement... local police, troopers, corrections FBI, and so forth, and as many know i myself am in the military. I have the utmost respect for cops. Treat them with respect and theyll treat you the same. Its not like they made up the laws they enforce, so dont blame them if you break a law and get caught. Be a man(or woman) and accept it. If you think the police are "the man" you need help.

I don't mind them provided they're respectful. I've had run ins with a few jerk offs but that doesn't ruin it for the general cop population. I did have one lie big time which got me in some trouble but there's nothing I can do about it now. Overall I like them, they're there to do a job.

I've dealt with both prick cops and really nice ones. All in all most were decent and just doing their jobs.

There are ******** in almost any profession from how I see it. You get jerkoff contractors who will rip off a grandma, bitter and lazy teachers who are mean to their kids for no reason, arrogant businessmen who think the world revolves around them, etc.

I've worked as a Probation Officer and a Corrections Officer, graduated with a Criminology degree, have several Law Enforcement and Corrections friends and relatives, and enjoy the relative protection each one of them offers. I am happy to contribute to the PBA, chat with on- and off-duty Officers just for the sake of it, and have encouraged my kids to respect and support what they do and represent. As a result my oldest daughter wants to go to one of those kids police camps next summer. She wasn't old enough this past summer.

Yep, like cops, will continue to do so.

Curious as to how many people either aren't voting or are voting yes just to avoid getting looked down upon.

its also interesting that people posting both good and bad experiences with LEO's are mainly posting about automotive situations. we are a small community on this forum and most (dont want to make up any numbers) of us seem to be lucky enough to not need the police for anything more serious in life. i remember when i was younger and my house got broken into, it was very comforting having a policeman come over, clear the home and stay for over an hour while my parents were figuring out what was gone.

it was also a very good experience when my motorcycle got stolen, even in the middle of shift change they were able to send a RETURNING car, on the way in from their shift to my house so i could be on time to work (before i was in my current job, so no strings were pulled)

i don't wish these things, or anything worse involving criminals and their property or friends and family, but it would be interesting to see how quickly someones opinion changed when faced with a real dilemma other than some tickets and arrogant prick patrolman

i spend 60-80 hours a week with the biggest pieces of **** mercer county has to offer, so yes it skews my view of LEO's. but like i said in the other thread, i see and hear about corrupt **** going on all the time, from people sleeping with inmates, to bringing in cell phones, to brutality. there are some people in corrections, and in street police forces that aren't anything but inmates in blue. BUT that is the minority, most officers want to do their job, help who they can, and get home to their family without being killed

Mike, mine wasn't a vehicle situation.

However, I'm still glad cops are around if/when I need them.

It happens, I helped put myself in the situation but he was out to make an example out of someone...the ****er lied through his ****ing teeth(sorry for the language).

Oh well, live and learn...nothing can be done about it now.

At least the honest ones are there when you need them.

I've never had any problems. If you act like a normal person and respect the police you receive the same treatment from them. If you become combative or argue then you will be treated differently. Most people who complain seem to have something illegal or wrong with their vehicle and get defensive about it.

I think that that's a gross generalization. Everybody's and individual. There are people that are a-holes that choose to become cops, there are also great people that choose to become cops. I've met both. Law enforcement is an important job, and I'm thankful people choose that line of work. I just wish you could smack the jackass ones in the head.

I agree, the few times (thank God) we've needed police assistance, they were there right away and VERY helpful, whether it was the time my daughter choked when she was 8 days old and almost passed out, or the time we were in a bad wreck and the car was totalled. Scary stuff, and I felt much better having them around.

As for automotive "issues" with the law, I've been pulled over 8 or 9 times and come away with tickets 4 times. I won't lie, the PBA cards definitely came in handy a few times (my brother in law is a Corrections Officer, and my best friend is a cop in Hopatcong), and one other time I didn't get a ticket is because they were looking for some other asshat with the same car as me. Again, it's been said numerous times, and I'll say it again. Don't act like a jerk to the officer if you get pulled over, and things will usually work out in your favor.

I know there are a few bad cops out there, but I hope that most of them are on the right side of the law and do the right thing when they need to.

I voted Neutral because although I have had a couple of instances where I didn't deserve the treatment I received from a police officer, I also have been given citations in situations where I did deserve it. All in all, I think that Police men/women are appreciated when we need them, but forgotten when things are going right and there is no real need for their help...

I voted Yes. I have friends who are cops, grew up with a cop for a next door neighbor, and have dealt with cops for both automotive offenses and other issues several times. I've only ever had one bad experience with an officer (not automotive related), and that got taken care of by a lawyer who's a friend of my family's at no cost to me. He walked into court, told the prosecutor what happened, and they dropped the charge on the spot.

As far as automotive issues go, I've been pulled over at least 7 or 8 times, and have only received a few tickets. Only one of those was actually for the offense I was pulled over for (speeding that time - and the cop reduced my speed on the ticket). The rest of the tickets were just $54 slaps on the wrist. I even managed to get pulled over once for speeding (75 in a 55), and had an expired inspection sticker (more than a year overdue), and my registration had expired a few days earlier (I just forgot to renew it). The cop let me go, and just told me that he would be checking to see if my registration was renewed by the following night.

I consider myself lucky to some extent, but I'm always polite and respectful when I get pulled over. Never been pulled over for something I didn't do, so I have no one to blame but myself.

i like cops, right now i'm going to school to become one. If your a ****head to a cop he's going to be a ****head right back. If you show a cop respect he will be respectful right back(as alex was saying) If your not driving like a **** then a cop will probably not pull you over. I had a 1969 nova, primer black, loud exhaust, rusty and failed for inspection. I got pulled over one time for it because i did not stop fully at a stop sign. i showed respect to the cop and he showed it back and he didnt give me a ticket or anything and he did not even mention the failed inspection.

it seems those that get pulled over alot are the ones that dislike cops.
But hell, ive probably been pulled over more than anyone here, 150+ times(~65 tickets), plus years back i wasnt the best behaved. Numerous arrest warrants, jv weapons charges, evading police... the cops even knew where i hung out so theyd just come to pick me up when a new warrant was put on their desk. Even back then i respected them still. Mainly because of one cop i met then, he actually talked to us when we were 16/17 and gave us the lowdown. We used to all hang out in a parking lot at nights, cops tried kicking us out but we'd always come back. Finally they accepted it, as long as we behaved for the most part, in the end it was a compromise. Even when the cops told me there was a "hit" on me one night and i asked them what theyd do about it, they replied with, "we'll have extra officers on duty, dont be in town though" well, yea, that wasnt an answer i liked, but it got taken care of(thanks to a county wide APB, lol)

my point is, your veiw of cops i think has more to do with the impression of cops put on you when you are younger and how your community veiws cops. They get a stereotype placed upon them before a person can even form their own opinion.

..and as a side note, now i'll admit, i DO expect preferred treatment from police nowadays. I am putting my life on the line, yes i know i volunterred, but still. A few miles over, tinted windows, loud exhaust... thats stuff i dont worry about anymore and so far when i have been stopped, i havent had any issues. but again, im not being stupid(like 127mph again with a cop behind me) or disrespectful.
