damn AL just read this thread... sucks man... but hey... good can always come out of bad... but deffinitly upgrade it... get your daily running good and start your project.... you know your not going to sell the car... so leave the 305 behind where it belongs and start a more powerful build for your car... you need a trans and rear either way... so just do it all.. may take longer and yes speaking from experience it sucks not having your toy to drive around... but i believe in the end it will be more amazing then had you taken the low road out.... do a zz4 or zz383 crate with the fuel injection kit on it.. boom... real nice street machine... get a beefier 700r4 or if you want to really beef it a th400 and a decently rebuilt 10 bolt bam... then when thats all done... repaint her.... BAM got a nice show quality driver that you can race and be happy with the results.... i mean thats basically waht im doin in a sense... but lt1 version... so get to it!

Well if he swaps to a 350, his heads and stock tpi setup will make pretty decent power along with a bunch mroe torque too. Sucky part is you need 350 injectors, and a tune again. and might as well put something like an lt4 hot cam or comparable aftermarket cam in while its out. So even taking the cheap road out will be a nice step up

Ehh, I like the car, but I dont like the car. Out of all the DD's Ive owned, Ive loved this the least. Im putting a starter in it today. Thats actually how it all started.
I was going to work in the caprice when I realized i left my wallet at the house. So I did a quick 180*, and drove back to the house. I ususally keep it running to keep the AC on, but I rememberd I had locked the house before I left, so I had to take my keys.
I get back in the car...no start. I had to be at work in 15 mins, and no start. I try again...no start. Now when I first got this car, it did this to me. The connections were always loose, so I always had to pop the hood and jiggle the battery cables. It would start after that. Kind of embarasing.
So I did that, jiggled...no start. No click, no chug chug chug, nothing. Just dead.
So I called my father to pick me up from my house to go back to his house to pick up the 87 so i could get to work. On my way there, I hear the tell tail clank clank noise. It first sounded like a belt squeel and a bad tensioner, but I realized...I have V belts. I figured Id check it out at lunch. I forgot about it when I got in my car to go to lunch, and when I turned it on, it went CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK!! I popped the hood, and the noise was pretty loud. I went home to pop the valve covers, hoping it was maybe some more rockers that broke, but that wasnt the case. Both sides looked good.
So...yeah. The 7 grand RPM runs in 2nd gear down the track on Sunday at nats probably set the wheels in motion.
Kinda pissed though. I really wanted to get this car into teh 13's before I started toying with the idea of a new engine. I figured with a 2800+ stall converter, I could have reached that. But with the trans and rear being spotty on Sunday, and now this....it looks like 14.2 will be the best for this combo.

Yeah well...ive been losing my mind this past weekend.
I was talking to some salespeople at some dealers via GMI, and they were talking about G8 GT's for 24k, and then I could get another 2 grand or so from CARS/CFC, brining the total to possibly 22k. That would be amazing.
