That looks totalled. Just looking at how far in the damage is and where it's at makes me think the firewall is fubar.
Total it and get something different.

not up to me. insurance says 75% of valueis teh automatic total point. there is a wide margin where they will get my feedback on if they shoudl save it or not.
i am honestly not sure what is better for me. with used car prices dropping the way they have recently my car isn't worth too much, so if it is totaled i basically get nothing back from it. but if i get it back it won't have nearly the resale value because it has been in a major accident.
in the meantime i get to spend $8 a day renting a car and making payments on a car that may be totaled.

i did already start shopping in case teh car is gone. figured i may as well be prepared. i am gonna shop for a full size pick up, nothign fancy, just a pick up with a V8 that i can do some mild towing/hauling with.

see http://www.njfboa.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5656 nothing against nothing fancy pickups & if you have the cash to pay for it outright the more power to ya but getting 10-15mpg & having a 22+ gallon tank will not make your fillups happy days.

Sorry to hear about your accident Tim... you might want to get your neck and spine checked by a chiropractor just in case.... I got hit by a drunk driver back in high school and that caused me permanent neck damage, but I never got it checked out right away. Good thing you had witnesses. Best of luck.

i was planning a trip to my family doctor to follow up on my neck. i don't think it will turn anything up, but i want to be safe about this. only symptoms i have had the whole time are more like muscle strain than anything else. actually i feel almost back to 100%. only slightly stiff if i try to turn my head all the way to the right.

foff667, i am looking at pick up trucks. nothing fancy, 1500 chevy or dodge, V8 4wd. that is only if the car is totaled and i decide to buy new. if i go used i will likely end up with another f-body the only new car that i am really interested in is the solstice with teh turbo motor, and that won't be out until the '07 model year anyway(240hp and 2350lbs ).

i jsut talked to the body shop adn looked at teh car some more. sounds like they think it will be in the repair range. i dunno what to think of that.
at this point this whole thing is gonna cost me a bbunch of cash either way and i get make payments on a car i likely won't see again for another month.
once teh estimate is written up i will get to talk to the adjuster about it.

in a reversal of my previous post.......lol
i just stopped at the shop and cleaned out teh alero. bid it a final goodbye as well.
mike stopped writing the ticket when he hit the $8600 mark and didn't even have all teh labor added in yet. insurance company accepted and that was that.
had the car for exactly 8 months, dec 18 2004 - aug 18 2005. odometer had 75 miles on it when i picked it up and 15, 748.3 when it was killed.
i am sort of mixed about this. it was teh first new car i ever owned, not my favorite car i have ever owned, but definately a comfortable adn reliable piece.

i am not gonna get a cobalt bill. i already owned a cavalier, a cavalier type R doesn't appeal to me :P
i am nto sure what i am gonna do. i have access to several 3rd gens which woudl be nice cause i already know a ton about them adn can practically build one from spare parts i have here. the other option i am looking at is a 1500 dodge ram(4x4 w/ da HEMI). with prices teh way they are right now i could get the truck and only pay a few more bucks a month than i was for the alero.
we will see. i jsut have to decide if i wanna drive new or save money rockin a used car.

I've got a station wagon here that needs brakes, battery, and a tune-up to run. Low miles , will sell cheap. $100 and I'll even help wrench on it. The car has been my neighbors grandmothers car for a LONG time, then she lost license and we got it for $100 after it had been sitting. Again, it's an offer. Might even be good for a demo-durby .

Hmmm, you get smacked in your Alero in 8 months and it's totalled, UB gets smacked in his SRT4 in less than a year and it's totalled. Now I know why I don't buy new cars, they get into accidents and are totalled! Well, it probably worked out for the best in your case Tim. And now you get to search around for another F-body to drive.

I think it's ok to blow up transmissions once in a while when you have a blown 6.0L in a truck.....
