i do most of my traveling in the right lane. you pegged it as less populated, and i rarely have to leave the right lane to pass a slower driver. on roads with more than one lane, like the parkway and turnpike, i pass people in both (or more) lanes left of me. they are ******** idiots and should be removed from the face of the earth. the best part is people who are CLEARLY older and have been driving for MANY years and should know the rules of the road and STILL drive in the left lane.
if i get into a situation where i have to leave the right lane and find myself in the left lane, i am branded an "aggressive driver" by the police because i am traveling too close to the vehicle in front of me and then pass them on the right (eventually) and whip into the left lane in front of them (as soon as i know i can without hitting them) causing them to brake check...
until i get back into the right lane and hit "resume" on the cruise control...
but i try not to let it bother me anymore. i expect them to be on the road and i expect them to be traveling too slow in the left lane, regardless of the myriad signs stating "keep right - pass left" or "keep right except to pass" and my favorite sign on the parkway around mile marker 96 or so that says clearly: SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT. that means you, too, not just the trucks...
