even if the car got put back together it'd still be a "hit" car and will never drive the same
personally id put it back together myself and sell it but that requires time, storage, and work

It needs more than that. The way it was hit there is probably rear body/floor damage

Ryan, do you have a copy of the estimate? I'm curious to what exactly they wrote.
I'm an auto damage appraiser, I do this stuff every day. If you need any help PM me.
Glad everyone is alright

That usually means a salvage title. Are you going to fix it or part it out? If you are parting it out, will they give you more if you don't keep the car?

You might ask. I had that happen. Well, they offered $1000. When I asked to keep it, I got the car & $600.
I have no idea, but will the salvage title hurt your attempt to resell it? I thought NJ was tough on those.

if you dont turn the title over to insurance and the tow yard gets the job of disposing the car, you can usually buy the car back easily and youll still have a clean title.
if it does become a salvage title, getting it street legal here in NJ is easy. i bought a salvage motorcycle a few years back and went through the whole process first hand. No trouble at all, worst part was waiting for the scheaduled inspection date at morristown.
DO NOT FIX IT TO RE-SELL. (fix for yourself is fine) fixing it with plans to just seell it is a huge waste of money. to fix it enough and properly it will cost more than you think and you will not be able to sell it for nearly what you want. take the 4k, sell the car AS-IS and be done with it.
