When activated, it is theorized that the collider will produce the elusive Higgs boson, the observation of which could confirm the predictions and missing links in the Standard Model of physics and could explain how other elementary particles acquire properties such as mass.

Although a few individuals have questioned the safety of the planned experiments in the media and through the courts,[6] the consensus in the scientific community is that there is no basis for any conceivable threat from the LHC particle collisions.[7]

You know...it reminds me when all the scientists on the manhattan project took bets that they thought the atomic bomb would cause the atmosphere to ignite.

did the scientists think of the possibilities. what would happen if they accidentally make a small universe inside a tube. does that mean that our universe could be an accidental discovery made by ourselves through a tear in the space/time continuim by sucking the universe through a black hole created in said tiny universe. we could very well end up with our own universe in a tube.
which in turn gets sucked out by a black hole it created and made our universe.

NOOOOOO

If they just proved that cell phones cause cancer, imagine what this thing can do My prediction, 18 minutes after it gets turned on, the Earth will be sterile.

I've been hearing different opinions from journals saying that their is a possibility a mini black hole could fall to the Earth and take in the solar system in ten minutes or their is no possibility of that happening at all..?

If I had to guess it'll take a some more experimentation to understand the data will will take about a year to compute and the possibility of the Higgs' particle proving the standard model. I'm going to say that they just end up creating some new synthetic elements considering this is the most massive collier built to date and their is some space left on the periodic table.

The question really is, if what they say about this machine is true, which is to propel an atom at supersonic speeds or whatever, how come I haven't seen this thing strapped onto a Civic yet?
