its around $400 for unsafe operation, which you can only do twice in 5 years. not sure about the whole ft monmouth thing. plead it down via plea bargain with the prosecutor. don't nit pick the ticket, thats why pencils have erasers. trust me. stop speeding!

Unsafe is what most tickets are reduced to so you can keep your 0 point status, and it generally runs between $400 and $500, depending on court costs and such.
Talk to your insurance company and see if they'll raise your rates for the ticket you got....if you trust yourself to stay out of trouble for a while, it may be cheaper to just pay the ticket and accept the points.

Court depends on where you are going. When I went, I walked in, and got in line to talk with the prosecutor. When I spoke with him, all he did was "you did x, I can drop it to y or z, which is a and b cost...which do you want?" I didn't say a word other than I wanted unsafe and "thank you sir." Then I sat in the court room and waited for my name to be called. I stood in front of the judge, he detailed the offense, asked me a question about it, then said the prosecutor agreed to drop it to unsafe, do you plead guilty to the new offense willingly etc etc?
Just make sure you bring cash/check. The court I went to didn't take credit card, and I was kind of banking that they would. He let me go to bring him a check the next day, but it might have something to do with I'm female, married, and clean driving record for 9 years, and I was extremely polite. There was a younger male who didn't have the clean record and wasn't as polite, and the judge decided he wasn't going to let him go til the next day, he had to scrounge up the money that night if he didn't want to spend the night in jail.

Prosecutor gets everything on the ticket I'm pretty sure. But they may go by what the cop wrote as the statute.

3 points every year free of moving violations and suspensions. your accumulated points can not go below 0.
you should call the courts asap though and tell them about your deployment. you may have to higher a lawyer to act as an affidavit on your behalf. you could request a written affidavit where you write a letter explaining how you are not guilty, but that is usually for out of state residents. call them up and ask a bunch of questions!

At first I was horrified to see that a cop would write an active duty Marine, on his way to Iraq, ANY ticket. Then I saw the part about Fort Monmouth and understood. The majority of the population they serve are service men and women. Not as easy for them to give breaks. Still, sucks rhino and if you'd have been stopped by me, you'd be asked to slow down, thanked for your service and given best wishes for a safe return from the desert.
As stated above, bring cash to court. If they have any heart at all, they MAY reduce it to "Causing risk of accident" (Part of the "Delaying Traffic" statute, 39:4-56) but in all liklihood, they'll hit you with "Unsafe Operation" which, sadly, will cost between $420 and $450 as stated above.
And since I didn't stop you, thank you for your service and be careful over there!

just go in there and ask the prosecutor to plead to unsafe driving. He will probably drop all the points and its a 450 dollar fine.
