It's a 4-stroke engine, cam turns at half the speed of the crank. Next time the crank has #1 piston at TDC, the cam gear dot is "180 out" according to your belief system.

Historically all that "180 out" stuff happened when the shop chimp installed the distributor pointing to #1 plug tower, but the cam was on #6 firing. If it's possible to install the cam 180 out of phase on a distributorless LS1, I'd love to hear about it.

The car still runs its timing off of the crank and cam position. it doesnt just "guess" when to fire the spark plugs.

True statement, but it doesn't change the fact that it's physically impossible to install a cam "180 degrees out" in an LS1 or any other known SBC.

You can install a distributor 180 out, sure. LS1 doesn't have a distributor.

But there's no such thing as a cam being installed 180deg out of phase w/ respect to the crankshaft position. Physically can't happen.

Go ahead and install the cam with the gear dot at 12 o'clock, ZOMG it's 180 out!!1!!1

Then rotate the crank one turn and you'll see the cam and crank gear dots facing each other like they should. All is well and the engine will crank right up when assembled. This is fact.

very true. but with lt1's, you may be able to install the cam too advanced or retarded and possibly eff up the good ole opti. still haven't figured it out, just been observing a thread about it and degreeing in a cam. very interesting

It was as I thought instead of the crank being at 12 and the cam at 6 it was reversed with the crank at 6 and cam at 12

all that is left to do it get the new exhaust welded in I picked up a hooker aero chamber catback and I'm still up in the air about putting this E-cut out in.
After that it is just a chumma tune then she is drivable.
Once I get these stupid lowering springs out I've got a sphon adj trq arma nd loop that I'm going to be putting in as well.

fairly little problems to dustin = 1.5 hour ride to millville, alt swap, finding out battery is dead, 30 minute ride to get battery, 5 miles down the road on the way home the exhaust scrapes, using the stock emergency jack on the side of the road and using the jack tool and a hacksaw to carefully ''remove'' offending piece of exhaust......

smooth sailing otherwise. glad to help out as always though. SHE SOUNDS PISSED OFF!!!!!!
