Yeah, IRS is not the best for drag racing, it's more for cutting corners with. I think the Cobra's had it, then borught the live axle back cause they were jsut squating on the take off.

Don't mix up a band aid system that was in the sn95 cobras to the system in the camaro. The new mustang didn't get irs because it was too expensive to add. At least for ford.
They said it was because that's what the enthusiasts wanted. The also want a 429 cobra jet standard but I guess the didn't get that memo

Where did you read that the Z28 is projected to be lighter than the SS?

http://www.motortrend.com/auto_news/..._go/index.html
"The near-4300-pound CTS-V thunders from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and nails the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds (automatic) or 12.4 seconds (manual). Top speed is limited to 175 mph in the auto (to preserve the tranny), but the manual will storm to an autobahn-melting 193 mph. As the Z/28 will weigh 200 to 300 pounds less than the CTS-V, it may nail 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and run the quarter in the very low 12s."

That's the CTS-V.....we are concerned that the Z28 is heavier than the SS.

Well, if it's between the two it won't be too bad, but I would argue that it should be at least between the LT and SS in weight.

its the structure of the new camaro that makes it heavy. i dont see where they can lose weight when theyre gonna have to beef it up to hold up

Sounds really pricey but I will dig it. Still would prefer a used one year old c6 to this car but once I see these modded I'll drool.

Move properly?
So 0-60 in the mid 4's, quarter mile in the 12's, braking under 110 ft from 60mph, packing 426hp...thas not movign properly?
I didnt say that the safety technology int he Camaro makes it heavy, the chassis is very strong, but the equipment overall makes the car heavier.
How much does a 4th gen Trans Am WS6 weigh? 3600-3700lbs?
Add 20's, IRS suspension, 4 more air bags, massive brakes, full dual exhaust with 4 mufflers, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand your 4th gen would be heavier then a 5th gen.
And the 5th gen goes faster, handles better, drives nicer, has more equipment, and gets better gas milage. Not to mention has better materials.

They are wrong. Z28 will come in north of 2 tons, by a good margin.
And the performance wont gain anything near that!! The GT500 runs 4.1-4.3 0-60 and low 12s, only a few tenths off the CTS-V, and the weight gap is about 300lbs.

Problem is that it could be heavier then the CTS-V coupe...
Now some might think thats right, that the more expensive CTS-V should be lighter, faster then the lowly Chevy, but what it comes down to are two cars that are within a Cobalt of eachother in price, but the CTS-V offers a better package with better interior, quality, fit and finish, ride, magnaride suspension, etc etc etc...

The chassis is plenty strong, but it will need some stronger driveline parts for the engine.
Additional weight will come from larger radiator, additional coolant for the internal intercooler, stronger motor mounts,
Had they not felt the need to ADD power, but only increase it a bit but focus all the work on a lighter and tighter Z28 package, you get a better car that is faster then the SS without adding all the nonsense.

Yeah, I heard they took the air ride suspension from the Towncar's and MkVIII's and swapped out the air bags for springs and called it a day, at least that's what someone had told me.

The mark 8 has IRS. Or had I should say.
The suspension design is very familiar for third/fourth gen guys. Its damn near identical.
