Only if you're afraid to work on it yourself. In 22 years of boating, the only "big" money I've spent was on the speed parts I put on the jet boat. That was $700 that was worth it and enhanced the value when I sold it. A boat is just like a car, if you mess it up it will cost you to fix it.

Guys are putting the LSX motors into a lot of the flat bottom and jet boats now and the weight savings over a big block is a huge difference with minimal power difference. Trying to run an efi setup is a little tough in an open cockpit boat though.

I don't know about him but I was talking in terms of fuel usage for a larger boat/larger engine
