blowing an engine may seem cool, but it sucks when you realize your out of a car and now need to spend even more $. oh well.

You are still young, theres no rush to learn everything in one winter. When i was 15-16 i was into bicycles, i didnt care about cars. i was into freestyle and bmx. then 8 months before i turned 17, i got my 1st car, a '73 dodge coronet, which i actually wanted then, what did i know. I coudlnt even tell if it was a 2 or 4 Bbl carb, but over time i learned more and more. and a month after i turned 17, i got my 88 Trans am GTA. And i continued to learn. While i was in HS i did very few things on the car myself. Only towards the end of my senior year i really started getting involved with working on cars. A lot of people around here have older brothers or fathers that helped them out and got them into the hobby, but im one of the few that didnt have any parental persuasion. i did everything on my own from day one. My parents know nothing about cars. Hell, even my GF is starting to know alot about cars. When i first met her she liked cars but knew little, now shes got the Monte and is already making plans for heads cam and a supercharger, all of which she will help install. My point is...relax, ok, so maybe it wont get done for dyno day, but you time otherwise.

it went right during a 2nd-3rd gear shift at about 2800rpms, just in normal driving. The oil and antifreeze went ALL over the road, cops finally came, then a tow truck, and the driver had to use 3 bags of speedy dry to clean up my mess... lol

The LS1, just went in my driveway, exact cause isnt proven yet, btu the motor will be out by mid april and ill known for sure then what happened. All i can see up through the shattered oil pan is that #1 rod seems to have let go, and the pan shattered, front engine cover shattered, and the explosion(yes there were flames, lol) also cracked the front corner of the aluminum block..so its a total loss.

ahhh, engine carnage!

when I tore down the 305 that was in my pick up, all 8 pistons had chunks missing from them

And Matt, I personally have been pretty busy and very tired the past few weeks, but when it gets nicer out and I'm not all tied up I'll help you out. It just gets kind of annoying when every other post made by you is asking people to help with your car. people wont even be talking about cars, but you'll chime in with it anyway. Just calm down. you dont need your car to be in one piece for a few years anyway, who cares if it sits with the motor torn apart for a few weeks. It will get done eventually. and as far as you running out of money, well, thats what you get for trying to build an LG4 . seriously though, you probably shouldn't have ordered nitrous for it, thats going to be a waste in my opinion.

If Matt blows an engine...its not like he is SOL for a ride, unless the cam shoots out and blows up his Huffy.

i've watched and helped in a few cam swaps, i could probably do it on something non-computer controlled, but i dont know the first thing about ripping apart the damn computer. give me a real mechanical engine any day, other than that i'm lost.

melissa..i was hesitant to jump into fuel injection when i was buildign the Monte, but now that its over, i woudl think nothign of it. theres quite a bit to learn but not that bad, the tuning aspect is a different thing though, lol. Only thing different with computer controlled cars are really the intake manifold. The LS1s are different but nicer, you dont even have to remove the intake manifold to do a cam swap, just remove the valve covers, and unbolt the rockers i believe then turn the cam a few times and all the lifters pop up.

I could do a cam on a SBC any day of the week, but its just the work involved that can get difficult on a car thats 20something years old. rust takes over, bolts break, wires become brittle, etc.

i would help, but... i have this fear, a fear that ill mess up and then if something goes wrong, itll be my fault. Its a paranoia ive almost always had even though nothign has really gone wrong with stuff ive worked on. I was so paranoid that the 350 i completely rebuilt for my monte would be bad, that i bought a spare motor to start rebuilding to replace it. Well, the 1st 350 runs great, no smoke noises, or leaks. Even with the 383 i half built and swapped in, no mechanical problems, im just still hesitant to work on other peoples cars. If its something simple or a bolt-on part sure, but getting into engine/trans/rear internals... only on my personal cars.

kasey, buy my tires dahm it, lol
