Other things from Detroit
For those of you who aren't following along, this past week was the North American International Auto Show.
Here are a couple of other cars that showed up.
Buick Avenir
Buick Cascada
Ford Mustang GT350R
Acura NSX...production (finally)
There's also the new aluminum F150 Raptor, Lincoln MKX, A Viper with 10k color choices, Toyota Tacoma, and Volvo will start to sell Chinese-made cars in the US this year.

I would rock that big body Buick Avenir

How big is the Cascada Al? Is that going after the Lexus IS stuff or do they have a different segment targeted?
One of the guys here at work is all giddy and giggly about the GT350R. Performance is going to be up there but man that thing looks goofy. The spoiler and 8ft of wheel arch gap look like wrong.

Nice. What's the price point? Folding tin top or real rag?
Does that point to a potential for a convertible Cruze or other small drop top offerings from GM?

it is a soft top. This car is a direct drop in from Europe. It does not signify any other small convertible car for any other brand for North America

That's a bit harder. I want to replace my G35x with something as reliable and as okay to drive. Not looking for any kinda beasts - toys come later (hopefully). Needs to be able to handle trips up north with my snowboarding gear. Preferably AWD or be able to manhandle snow in some other magical way. Gotta be at least partially fun to drive and look at. I like the way Q50/60 looks and they are faster than the current G35/37's so I was looking at those. So far I prefer the q60 to anything else I've seen and at the current lease rate of (299 per month with 2.5k down) I'm having a difficult time finding anything that floats my boat.
I've checked out the lexus IS250 but with 204 horsepower I'm thinking its not gonna be fun in the "drive to work" department. BMW.. i drove my moms 3 series for a week and now I don't want one. So i don't know what else to look at. CTS became too expensive.. and ATS is kinda fugly imo.
edit* tried seeing vw cc but apparently my local vw dealer doesn't have ANY on his lot. wtf?

That Cascada is pretty nice but then I started reading into it and man, theyre talking like that car is gonna start at 30k...that seems like its carrying a steep price tag for a car that looks like a base model rental car.

I like it too, and I agree with you. It seems like it's aimed for the "Sebring Segment." That may be their intent though- a fun, decently optioned 'vert for the Camry driver who wants something a bit more fun.

Its a shame because honestly it looks like its pretty comparable to the Cruz's but well beyond the price range. if they found a way to bring that down to the low 20's for a very well optioned vert I could see it being very popular, especially since the Euro version already sells for 22k Euros, which is 5k less than the Buick nameplate.

Did you look at the RC coupe from Lexus? I think it looks pretty good, if not a bit boy-racer.
The Q60's price will rise to match that of the 4/A5.
New C class look fantastic as well.
CTS is a much bigger car and while I don't think the ATS is fugly, it sure isn't as appealing as I would have liked. Between the coupe design and the updated face with the new emblem, it's even less exciting to look at. Very bland for a brand that made cars like the CTS coupe.
As for Cascada, it will probably start just under 30k. It's not a Cruze, so why would it be at Cruze pricing? A 3 series is about the size of a Cruze, yet it starts north of 30k?
Size does not dictate price. The Cascada has a handstitched leather dashboard, a higher output unique engine, advanced suspension, and is in a market of entry level luxury vehicles.
Cruze has none of that. That's why the Cruze is priced like it is.
