Just my luck...

Well after putting about 40 miles on my car with Lloyd Elliott Stage 2 heads an a LE 1.5 cam I started up my car one day and it idled at about 500 rpms and sounded like it was miss firing terribly with a strange type of tap and then wouldn't start. After pulling the valve covers I discovered that my number 2 cylinder intake valve spring snapped. I was in shocked I couldn't understand how a Comp Beehive spring could snap like that at first I thought the rockers where to tight but that didn't make sense cause all the other springs were fine plus I had the rockers adjusted professionally...

After doing some research turns out I'm not the only one to ever break a Comp 918 Beehive spring. Comp switched their manufactuer of this spring to Mexico and since then there has been a huge number of people snapping them within the first 100 miles of putting them on. Guess I was one of the lucky ones...Mass production resulted in low quality of product.

As far as I know I don't think Comp is honoring anyone that has broken them. Great.

So as I stated this is just my luck..looks like the heads will be coming off again.

I had to deal with a soft cam from them once. Not cool.

just a side note we found the springs u are talking about were made short meaning they ( COMP ) dident check them or they would have found that little tid bit - when they are short the spring coil binds and that is the reason they break - if you had a rimak machine u could check the installed height travel and open pressures so as to have a real idea what is going on, just make sure the shop doing it checks the coil bind on the new set coming -- jz

dont know the type of car but they might be changable with the heads on if you checking all the #s -

Well its nice to actually get some good news on this situation. Lloyd has said that he is going to send me a set of dbl springs with Ti retainers, locks and locators free of charge as long as I send him the beehive springs. These are the springs he is sending me.

https://www.patriot-performance.com/...&cat=52&page=2

Lloyd responded very quickly to my e-mail and even explained the situation to me with Comp and sent a tutorial on how to remove the springs and how to install the new ones (probably going to have that done professionally though due to lack of tools and experience).

Lloyd Elliot has proven to be a real stand up guy and helpful with all my questions. I'd reccommend him to anyone.
