Just ordered a Dana 60

Yup as it says I bit the bullit and ponyed up the loot and ordered my new rear with matching chromoly driveshaft. Should have it in about 4 weeks. I'll post some pics once I get and have it in the car.

Damn, Dana 60 is HUGE. What kinda crazy power do you plan on putting out that you will need that much rear?

I went with the dana because 1 out of 2 twelve bolts have problems and plus the power they can handle for the dollar. The 9 in. requires a 'slight'massaging of the floor, has no sway bar mounts or brake line nounts which is flat out rediculous for that kind of coin. Then I saw the Dana. Complete bolt in that can handle gobs of power. It was a no brainer.

As far as what I plan to lay down I have no idea, but I figured I'm gonna build the car from the back to the front. Do it once do it right.

The rear cost me just a hair over 2k.

4.30's might be a little high. What mods/power are you making now? What transmission do you have? Depending on you current combination the 4.30's could slow you down once you get into the 11's. But get us some pictures of the rear once you get it.

m6 bolt on car...fwiw alex just ran 10.50@130 with 4.56's in a heads/cam stock cubes car so i doubt 4.30's are too high

Nice times! What size tires is he running though? Taller tires will effectively bring the ratio down to something like 4.10 or lower. And did he go into 5th gear to do that speed? If so, the gears could be slowing him down. I know several people who hit a point where the 4.30's slowed the car down because they had to shift into 5th before the traps. Those are incredible numbers right from the get go.

Yea, I know the Dana is gonna be virtually indestructable, but that is such a heavy rear...

Yea its the rear strange is making. The dana is between a 9 in and a twelve bolt in weight if I recall correctly. As far as the 4.30's slowing me down that wont happen for some time. I'll be taking it to the dyno after the install to see the power loss compared to my **** 10 bolt.

Please let me know how you like it. When the 10-bolt blows up I'm highly considering that rear.

That Dana ought to hold up for a long time. Personally, if my 12 bolt ever gives up I'm going to go with the Billingsley custom 9 inch housing. If you build it yourself it's actually pretty cheap.

I was actually having a debate about this the other night.... a 4.30 ratio means that with one revolution of the driveshaft, the wheels will spin 4.30 times, right? Because someone was trying to tell me it was the other way around.

It is the other way around. With a 4.30 gear, your driveshaft will spin 4.3 times for each complete revolution of the tires.

Gears are listed as 4.30:1, which is pinion gear rotations:ring gear rotations.

That makes sense. For some reason I thought it was the opposite. So a 4.30 compared to a say 3.25, that would give you better off-the-line performance?

Yup, as long as you can hook it

It also allows you to get up into the powerband quicker which is a big advantage. My comment about too much gear is that depending on how fast your car is in the 1/4 mile you might need to shift into 5th which would slow you down. I keep forgetting the LS1 cars rev more than the LT1 cars.
