17inch Tire Question

My girlfriend just bough me a set of 17inch Black ZR-1 wheels for my TA and now I gotta find some tires. I was curious to see what kind of tires you guys are running or have any strong recommendations.

I don't road race the car or bring it down the strip. I basically just take it to work every now and then and drive it around town and to Seaside. I'll get on it every now and then (maybe I'll wind it out to about 90 maybe twice per tank of gas).

Thanks

I have 245/45 ZR17 Continental ExtremeContacts on my '88 SS. They hook reasonably well on the street, and the tires are good in the rain. I've been out with it a few times in rain and haven't had a problem.

right now i have Sumitomo HTR+ 235/45/17 on my grand prix, and Kumho Ecsta ASX in the same size sitting in my garage. the sumi's have been pretty good to me, i expect the Kumhos to be even better.

Most popular and cheapest size for 17in rim on F-body is 275-40-17s. They shouldn't cost you much more than 120 a tire.

The eagle f1 series is a great tire to look at. Im gonna put the eagle f1's on my irocs and there are eagle f1 runflats on the vette, have yet to break them loose on dry asfalt, there rated for close to 200mph but also run 400 and something a tire thats why im gonna be running the regular f1's on my irocs. I also love the bfg comp ta but im not shure if they are still making them the might have all switched to the g force ta which is the other choice of tire i might do. Just my toughts for ya.

Thanks for all the replys guys.

The BFG's are certainly nice, a little on the expensive side . I was poking around tires.com and they have some Hankooks, Z-Rated all season tires for like $107 a pop with free shipping. In any case I have some time, as long as I get these rims on before the Pontiac show in April I'll be happy.

Do you guys know any tire shops that use the stick on wheels weights? I don't want them hammering on the other ones on these wheels.
