Last day at ATCO was a blast.....

For Dec 15 you could not ask for better. It was like a track rental, air was good, very little if any wind, track had bite (at least for my power level) and new bests were everywhere. I was in search of the elusive 11 sec slip....

Got 9 runs in by 1:30 and then I left, but could have easily gotten 5-6 more.

.....60'......330......1/8ET.....MPH....1000......1/4ET.....MPH....COMMENT
1 1.875 5.161 7.851 88.76 10.536 13.188 81.05 Missed 4th???
2 1.952 5.311 8.025 90.64 10.507 12.557 111.79 Missed 4th
3 2.049 5.433 8.149 90.13 10.490 12.444 116.58 Granny shifted
4 1.807 5.082 7.766 91.96 10.079 12.013 117.60 I can smell it
5 1.817 5.024 7.663 93.16 9.948 11.867 118.38 OH YEAH
6 1.782 4.969 7.616 92.75 9.905 11.829 118.19 Not a fluke
7 1.829 5.090 7.752 93.05 10.047 11.970 118.14 12.0 index???
8 1.768 5.005 7.643 93.72 9.909 11.817 119.06 BIG MPH
9 1.779 4.983 7.613 93.75 9.881 11.793 118.72 BEST OF DAY

All runs were at full weight, full interior, sway bar connected on 26x11.50 r16 ET streets with skinnies up front. Generally, I dropped the clutch at 4000 or 4500 or 5000 and flat shifted from run 4 on. I think the car has 11.50's or 11.40's in it if I took the sway bar off the front and tweak on the shock setting some and played with the suspension.

My goal of an 11sec slip is achieved and now the car will be retired from drag racing. On to autox/open track and maybe a Land Speed Racing event.

But it was a great day at ATCO.

Chris

Congrats!

I say you pull the sway bar and go back in a few weeks when they re-open. See if you can do better than an 11.5.

If I can catch a day in January or early February I might try that. But once I put the Strano springs in the car, the hopes of a good 60' time will surely go out the window. So maybe I'll hold off on the spring install and see if the weather cooperates, because an 11.50 or better would be really sweet.

I don't know if the car has too much more than that in it right now, the best the car ever went was 11.54 @ 121 (previous owner 2MCHPWR), but that was with no passenger seat, no sway bar and 4.10's out back (I think?). My 60' is still kinda like pooh given the mph I am running out the back. If I could catch a 1.6x short time then I'd have a shot. 120 mph would be a nice plateau to hit too.

we'll see.....

Chris

yo dude - its got ported heads, B1 cam, ported t-body, underdriven crank pulley, exhaust, etc etc etc.

congrats chris! 11.79 is hauling with that crappy short time. how much air were in the ET streets? they must have been bogging, right? not spinning? you should have raised your launch RPM and lowered air pressure in tires.
Here are my notes on the last time I took her to Atco. I'm sure I disconnected the sway bar but I didn't put it in my notes so not 100% sure.

http://209.177.55.37/atco11_29.htm

yes it had 4.10's at that time; never dragged her with the 3.90's that you have now.
I got 11.54 that last time and I was sure there was 11.3x in there if I stuck around and didn't break. Oh well.
So glad to see you enjoying her and here's to having more fun AX'ing next season

Come on, where's you sense of being sneaky and keeping 'em guessing?????

tires were at 20psi all day. I saw some pics and tires are wrinkled pretty good. I have run them down around 15psi, but man the car sways on the big end. On a couple of the later runs they were spinning slightly. I feel better with them at 20, does that mean I should start wearing a skirt?

haha you pu55y!!!!
yes the sway at the top end is scarey. Last time out with my rx7, I was about to call it quits for that very reason. but instead my tranny mount broke
Next time for you, lower em down to 13, drop it at 6k RPM, and get some bias ply skinnies! just make sure you got AAA or a tow home just in case. damn drag racing is hard on parts.

Yeah I had the GTO spares on the front. With the Vette brakes up front there aren't too many options outside of CCW ($$$$) so snagged a set of GTO rims, ground off all markings, and mounted up a set of M&H Racemaster skinnies...I figure if the rim is good for the GTO structurually, then its good for my firechicken with the good tires mounted. They are ugly though. I bet they are 20lbs-25lbs lighter per side though

The mods are small cam, ls6, old cartek heads and exhaust all tuned by cartek with 12-bolt and 3.73 (or 3.90) gears.

I saw the car, but without the wing didn't realize it was you....

chris
