Thumbs up NNJR SCCA Saturday Results....

With the car still packed from Friday at Giants Stadium I woke up early and headed off to E-town. Weather was beautiful and turnout was on the low side due to a few other major events going (2-day event with the Philly region, NE Divisional at Romulus) so we were going to get 8 runs.

I ran in C-prepared which is pretty much a class for dedicated race cars, but there were two other guys in class and our cars were all prepped pretty evenly. One guy was running an 87 firebird on 275/16 Hoosier A6 rubber and Strano's suspension package, race seat and some weight reduction. The other guy was running a 94 Mustang Cobra and he had swapped in the IRS from a later Cobra and had coilovers and was on big 315/18 front and 335/18 V710's out back. And from talking to both of them they were experienced drivers, so this was going to be a fun day and my work was cut out for me.

Probably the most fun I've had at an autox. Every time to the line had to count because I think after every round someone had stepped it up. And I think each of the three of us held the lead at one point during the day and we were always within a couple tenths of each other. At the end of the morning session (4 runs) I had the lead with a 48.2xx, but the other Firebird was right on my heals with a 48.3xx +1 cone. So if he cleans it up here's right there. The mustang was a little off the pace with a 49.1xx. The afternoon was shaping up to be real competative.

The Mustang guy tweaked his camber settings between rounds and boy did it pay off. He clicked off a 48.0xx +1 cone and a 47.4xx +1 cone. So if he cleans up either of those runs he's got the lead. Meanwhile I am struggling to get back to my 48.2xx from the morning session and can't seem to find more time. The other firebird is having the same problems as me and can't seem to get back to his morning times. Luckily for me the Mustang guy couldn't put together a clean hero run, but did make me it interesting. His best clean run came late 48.4xx. The other firebird made his last run his best clean run with a 48.9xx so the competition was good and lots of fun.

C-prepared is not a PAX friendly class so I don't think I could ever PAX well. In order to have the best PAX time I would have needed to run a raw time a full 4 seconds faster than my best run. I don't think there was another 4 seconds out there at least not in my car with me driving.

Here's some links to the times
