anyone have experience with one of their setups behind a turbo 350 or 400 trans? if so Im just wondering how it performs etc. possibly putting one in the nova, just trying to get more info. i see plenty of stuff on the net, but it would be nice to hear from some guys closer to home. thanks

Two of my friends have it and LOVE them. What info are you looking for exactly? One has a TH400 in a 79 Camaro and the other has a TH350 in a 74 Nova, they both had to do some cutting in the cross floor brace to get the GV in the tunnel properly

just wondering more about driveability and such. i've been reading ALOT of good things about them, actually havent found a single bad thing about them. and for the price, something that stands up to the power some guys are putting through them it seems like the best bet.

There are automatic shift modes and manual modes, but I think the guy with the nova just leases it in automatic. It is like having a 6 speed automatic transmission and the benefit of the overdrive.

I doubt you will be disappointed.

I would think replacing the TH350 with a 200r4 (same length case) is a cheaper option to get overdrive than a GV. I replaced my PG with a 200r4 from an 86 monte SS and really love driving the car now. Very little mods required and reused the same driveshaft without changing it.

Like Bear said, you need to do some cutting and move the crossmember to fit it in. Short driveshaft is something you will need too.

Keep in mind that a built 400 with the GV is going to be essentially bulletproof, cars in the 1500hp range can run those.

If you are running in the 300 to 600hp range, a built 200r4 like Kevin mentioned is a smarter choice.

townsend, i told you come to the January meet and talk to 2 guys who have them. I am sure you can arrange a ride along in the spring. in fact joe is no more than 30 minutes form you. 74 nova, sbc/th350 & gv

however I also remember talk of full after market suspensions and such. Staying with a SBC?

as of right now we are staying sbc. its my father inlaws car and i cannot convince him to go lsx

. probably gonna end up with a zz383 or fast burn 385.

we are gonna try to make the meet. with his work schedule and me being laid off again its one of those we will see if we can. i have heard both good and bad about 200r4's and also from what i had experienced in my carbed 84 with a 700r4 it didnt like the carb. it was a pain to get it set up properly.

currently, the car is coming apart to be sent to RPM for the floor to be replaced and the front subframe mounts to be fixed. the speedtech front clip will then be sent down so he can install it.

he wants the suspension and drivetrain side of the car to be BULLETPROOF. never having to think about it or work on it again. and also, to be variable enough that if he ever decides to go lsx, hardcore autocross, open track days, etc, he can.

If you get a GV, the transmission will be the weak link between the two

If you want something that can grow with the car, why not get a 80e?

It would prob be ~2800 for the trans/verter and then a controller if you don't want to manually shift it for ~500.

Tossing a GV behind a TH350 would prob end up costing the same, and you would not end up with a new trans

This is what I was going to post.

Just go for an OD trans and call it a day, since it sounds like he would need both a new trans and a GV unit.

thanks for the input. the drivetrain is just in the planning stages as of now. got lots of time until we get to that point.
