3in Stainless Y Pipe

I need a 3in stainless Y pipe. I see hooker makes a nice one but it's $350. LPP makes one also for $175 but it's flattened in a few spots (only thing stopping me from buying it). Will the flattened section make a difference at all? TSP makes exactly what I'm looking for but it's not stainless. My headers and catback are stainless so I'm not settling for anything else as far as the Y goes. Thoughts, comments, ideas?

the ls1's have the y pipe flattened on the driver side to clear the frame notch. they come stock like that too.

Agreed. But the Hooker, TSP, Mufflex, Kooks, etc. y pipes are not flattened on the drivers side....they hang a bit lower to clear. I would fab up a bracket to stop the drivers side knocking regardless, I just want something that flows really well. If anyone has any experience with the LPP Y pipe, please chime in.

The LPP y-pipe is almost the same as the Pacesetter y-pipe. The slightly flattened section is not going to cost any power unless you're way up there in excess of 6-700+ hp. The Kooks y-pipe is actaully ovalled and somewhat flattened as well. The TSP isn't flattened, but the way the build it is pretty crappy with somewhat abruupt bends and sections welded together. I have the TSP with cats on my car and I would not recommend it. I'd go with the LPP or a custom y-pipe. Did you check Stainless Works or American Racing Headers?

What headers do you have? What is done to the car? Cats or no cats? Keep in mind you get what you pay for, espically with exhaust..

Mods to the car are 1 3/4 ss ebay headers, LM catback, ls6 intake, S3 tb, SSRA, 98mm lid, 85mm maf, large cam, 3600 Vig, 4.10 gears. I plan on running some high flow bullet cats. What do you recommend?

Hard to say what will fit the headers you have since every set is a little different.. Your best bet might be to just get one custom made.. Otherwise you will just end up with something that hangs down and hits everything you drive over..

with the custom y-pipes, isn't there 2 ways of bending the pipes? (like the type of machine they use to bend it?) a friend of mine was mentioning it to me yesterday about the differences in bending the pipes, resulting in a slightly better flow while not sacrificing ground clearance.

The basic differences are mandrel bent pipe vs normal bends which have crimps and reduce flow at the bends. Mandrel bent pipe is definitely the way to go.

Kind of an old thread, but I would just go with the LPP stainless Y if you havent decided yet. As mentioned, you will not see a loss of performance from the flat spots unless you are making ridiculous power. Those flat spots will also keep the Y pipe from banging the floor over bumps and acceleration.

FYI, I tried running a tsp catted Y without the flat spots and it sat right against the under body. The banging and vibration was a real PITA, which led me to buy an ORY with the flat spots.
