Dr. Gas Boom Tubes....anyone ever used them?
Anyone ever heard these on a street car?
http://www.drgas.com/store/product.p...7&cat=4&page=1
I was curious. Thinking of building a new exhaust, oval tubing and flaring out the side just in front of the tire....one on each side? Noise levels and clearance near the fuel lines on the driver side though.

Theres a kid Drake I know from PA with them. He had it on his LT1 SS with a full exhaust and a small cam... now that was a LOUD set up. probably blows away an SLP with LT's & no cats in sound.

In NJ the exhaust must exit (either 4 or 6) inches behind the last side window that rolls down in order to be legal. I read this with my own eyes in the inspection manual when researching the legality for my brother's planned exhaust on his '79 Malibu.

That is more what I was thinking. Past the last opening window. I remember running into that with full size vans. Exhaust shops would turn the tail out in the wrong place not realizing (or caring) the back windows opened (hinged & open outwards)

These would be for the firechicken.... but space is at a premium. And the Dr. Gas stuff ain't cheap.
We'll see. My car is due for inspection in October and I plan on testing the waters a bit. Right now I have longtubes, into gutted cats, into a bullet muffler and dumping right before the axle under the car. I used to have a cutout, but it **** the bed, so i took it off all together. My current setup passed sound decibel levels at the Northeast Divisional race which was (96db at 50 feet under acceleration at a right angle from the course) I don't know what my reading was, but I didn't get flagged or even get a warning (above 90db).
If it passes Bakers Basin MV inspection like this I want to remove the existing SLP dual/dual setup (which is still bolted up downstream of the dump point) all together and redo the Y-pipe and run oval pipe to a set of boom tubes existing on each side just in front of the tire. I haven't heard a set of boom tubes though and won't fork over the cash until i do.

why not just run a single one under the side that doesnt have fuel lines(been awhile since i was under a 4th gen forgot which side sorry). People can only look at one side of the car at a time so it looks clean from either side, plus a single exhaust has been proven to flow just as good as true duals when you're running stock cubes and no power adder

that's probably what will happen if this all pans out because of the fuel lines (driver's side of the car). A single sided outlet would also be lighter which is part of my motivation and cheaper. First I need to hear one. If they sound like pooh on a street car then the idea is dead.

i ran(on my lt1) mid-length headers that y-ed together and met a single bullet muffler with a turndown and it sounded like pure sex

You can hear sound clips of boom tubes on 4th gens here except 2 clips they are on a LT-1 and won't sound anything like your LS
http://www.ls1sounds.com/custom.htm
Since you seem so concerned with weight on your car you should call Dr.gas before you purchase anything because some of the Boom tubes are heavy..
I have the Hooters Pro-cup Split exit Xscream cross over system but I am waiting on a buddy to get me into Mufflex so they can tweak the system to fit my car and add 3 bolt flanges so that I can swap it out as need be..
I also think it is a waste to even go this route unless you are using an X merge ect..

Thanks for sound clips. In a perfect world I would love to do a x-merge, but space is limited under the car and I plan on lowering the car for next racing season so I have to be real careful. What I would probably do is a utilize a y-pip and then just have a single exit on the passenger side if things got really tight under the car. All this is still in the look and see stage, but I think it has potential. I'll let you know how this shakes out.

From what I see, that setup would not pass inspection. The exit is not far enough behind the window as stated in Justin's post above.

Yea, I was just gonna say the same thing. If the exhaust pipe isn't 4" or more behind the rear of the side window, it isn't legal, regardless of the noise. Not sure how strict inspection will be, but that's something to consider when you are deciding what to do.

Your really gonna need to hear the boom tubes in person but just throwing this out feel that this is a great setup.

4" behind the last window that opens is what the NJ rule is.
I dunno if it's different being that it is a stock exhaust on the viper....
