Going up against a Charger SRT8...

Hey everyone,
May 28th is the day. Me and a buddy of mine are going to Englishtown to run our cars. He has a 06 Dodge Charger SRT8 w/ a Cat-Back & 22" Wheels. Im running the mods below. What do you think? Will I beat him? I know that his 22" wheels are going to hurt him alot, but Im thinking about doing some last minute mods to try to get more of an edge. Any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance

I beat an SRT-8 Charger last year at englishtown by at least 2 lengths. The only mods I had at the time were long tubes, a lid, and a tune. He was fast off the line, but i played catch up. Its probalby going to be different for you because you have an lt1, but it should be close.

Mark, do you have any track times now? I would think you're mid to low 13's which should put you close to him, I can imagine him getting any traction with 22's, if he beats he's going to run you down at the top of the track.

Do a little weight reduction, and have you ever raced before? That plays a lot into it. I've seen many "should be" 12 or 13 second cars run high 14s or slower.

I have raced before. Been to Atco a few times. Im by no means a pro. Im thinking about getting a set of 1.6 Roller Rockers & an underdrive pulley for a little extra insurance

Luckily for me, he hasnt raced before & I dont think he is all that great of a driver. (Cant drive a stick)

Underdrive pullies are the biggest waste of money you can spend.

Rocker arms give you a marginal improvement.
To beat him, you would probably need another 100hp or so.
With teh manual trans, who knows what will happen. You miss a shift or slip up, you are done. At best this is a close match but the SRT8 should run low 13's.
Your car is a lighter 4th gen LT1 car. Mid to High 13's at best.

Mark I took a modified SRT8 in my 94 A4 car. My car was CAI, Tune, 3:73s, !cat, catback, shorties, and drag shocks. He was headers, catback, tune, and a cold air. I had him from the light and stayed well ahead of him the whole time. I was probably low 13 high 12 car he was probably low-mid 13.

Al...where did you pull that time from for his LT1. He has similar/more modifications than I do and with a good driver should be faster than me Especially a 6speed. Maybe mine was just a bit quicker than other similar cars, but still.

It was a SRT8 Charger btw.

Mark, what did you run at Atco? Under drive pulleys and rocker arms are a waste, don't bother.

I am basing his times off a 4th gen LT1 car.
As for performance mods, it didnt seem like a lot. That 315hp, is that dyno or what you figure your car makes?
I dunno. The LX cars are heavy, but that 6.1 makes good power. Thats a 13.0 car easy. I dont see, even with an LT1 swap and your mods, beating him. You need to be spot on with the shifts and know how to drive the everloving crap out of it.

I'm figuring a best of a 13.2-13.3 for the SRT8....if the guy is a non-driver and he's running aftermarket 22's, it certainly won't be a 13.0 pass.

Rockers would be better then the pulleys. Anything that can help out the valvetrain move nice and smooth witha big more lift and duration is a good thing.
Underdrives suck something massive.

Even with 22's...maybe its a close.

Mark, we could always install a nitrous kit for that extra insurance... It would be cheaper than doing a cam and more horespower will be made which we all know = more fun!
