problem with down tunes is your guitar needs to be set up for it.. .and mine arent... but i dont like it anyway... plus whoever said they playin D standard but then said they played all that old thrash.... all that thrash is mostly standard... and old slayer is in standard too... im sorry but a metal song in standard will walk on tuned down song anyday... its so easy to chug chug chug all day long with it tuned to C but to make a song heavy in standard then your talken... MY opinion of coarse... but i feel pretty strong about it....

I can, I've been involved in music for a long time...I'm taking a theory class right now even though I'm not a music major. I used to be a brass player before I got involved with the guitar

jam you have to stop boasting about your self if you want people to take you seriously... lots of us are still beginners just having fun in our bedrooms jamming out... haha besides some of the most successful guitarists learned by themselves... lots didn't learn any theory until well after they were a full time musician... and some don't know it at all and still write kick ass music.... and i dont know if its just my setup.. but barr chords to me dont sound as clean in drop D as they do in standard E... E is so crisp.... most new trivium is written in standard... HMMM?/ i wonder why.... it sounds better!!!

That is very true, there are people out there who can play some really sick stuff on the spot and write some pretty cool riffs...only knowing how to read/write tabs. knowing theory is an advantage, but guitar is one of the few instruments that can play from tabs. When I write stuff it is much more convenient to scratch it down as a tab then break out the manuscript paper...

^^ i was just asking cause 69birdx said something about writing a song and I thought i wouldn't hurt to ask. I didn't mean to come off condescending, don't read too far into it. and Trivium mostly plays in D, they just started using standard, since they did that Metallica cd. and that whole " having fun in our bedroom" line came off funny haha.

haha yea... trivium really only had one cd before the crusade... ember to the inferno was an ep so i dont count it... plus it really wasnt that good... ascendency was their best if you ask me... shogun is epic though also... but again they arent to most original band... i can pick out riffs that they strait stole off megadeth in a song or two and they deff do that with metallica also... but i still love their music... i just feel as far as metal goes but lots of other genras too.. is that their is no more originality... its all just a copy... even children of bodom... their riffs sound exactly like what jeff waters would play in annihilator 20 years ago... just drop tuned and screaming like a crazy finland guy.... real metal... not hair metal... peaked in the mid late 80's... i mean listen to any maiden song... amazing.... no metal band today has the staying power like that.... none...

I think Show No Mercy is in standard and the rest are in flat up till Undispputed Additude and that was Dropped D Flat. Stuff on Diabols in Musica is in that and dropped C. Also God Hates Us All and Chirst Illusion is a mix of that and seven string guitars.

And for stuff in B/C.. All I have to say is Dream Theater
