Security

Okay, this is probably an old question but i'm stumped. Randomly lately, my "security" light has been lighting and it locks me from starting my car, just out of no where, i could be a home, the bank, friends house, store, etc... i made sure the key isn't scratched and the chip is clean, maybe its a wire in the steering column?

hey cow, i had the exact same problem and fixed it. you have the gm resistor chip in your key, the black bump on the shaft. your car is programed to know the exact resistence of your key and if it does not see it then it will assume that someone is trying steal the car and it will lock down for 7 minutes, at least on lt1's its 7. anyways, i bet your key is worn down and pretty beat up right? mine was, it was rubbed down and not reading right, locking me out, so i went to the dealer, only place to get it, and they red the number of my key and made a new one. problem solved, never happened again. if your key is in pretty good shape then you might have a faulty vats module, they are located behind/under the dash, a little black box. you can actually program it out of your computer if you have the software but id try the key first since its there to protect the car, new keys are 25 bucks. damn i rambled that on, sorry im doing beer bombs with whiskey and i can still type, bitch!

yeah no way are they 120 bucks. i went to a chevy dealer and got one my self for only 25 bucks or so and it solved the problem. if you lost the key then that might be a problem cuz then they have no way of knowing what resistence your chip was.
