But it wasn't always 2k. When your car was new parts were expensive too

id be willing to bet that gto headers fit and the ls3 has been out for a bit so yeah. cold air intakes of that ''complexity'' (warm air intake) its pretty easy to ''backyard'' and like 500 at an exhaust shop

6 grand, installed, with dyno tune...its really not that bad.
I remember when LS1's came out, people were spending that much to put down 400.

I agree 100%. I would imagine that the price will come down some as the years go by. Its still pricey to mod an LS1 and most folks forget that the LS1 has been around for 14 years vs an LS3 which has only been around for 2.5 years. So for 6k to drop off your new SS with 358rwhp and then pick it back up with 505rwhp without turning a single wrench isnt bad at all.

Late 1996 as a 97 model year. That makes it 14 years old.

Cam install, LT and exhaust install, with cold air intake, and dyno tune, not to mention the price of the parts...Why not ask a place like TTP or another LS shop how much it would take to do that an LS1 car, and then tell me how much power you will put down.

You could deffinatly do it cheaper, save yourself two grand in labor at least, but its up to the owner. 500 RWHP is a lot of power.

if thats the case then it would be 13.

half of 96 and half of 09 make 1 whole year in your terms plus the 12 years in between. Its still 14 calendar years.

400 dollar headers for a GTO?
Lets actually look at a similar car, the G8. G8 headers go for 1500 bucks for a set of stainless LT's.
And a true dual exhaust, with cats, is going to run you a grand, in stainless, at least.
Throw in near 300 bucks in tuning/dyno testing, and you have a pricy build.
Would I spend the 6k? Eh, no. Is 6k a great deal? Well when people are dropping 4k on superchargers only, without having a shop install it or tuning it, making that kind of power.
I think its a fair price for right now. Once the car gets going, parts are made more readily available, should drop pretty far.

So in your infinite wisdom if you bought a brand new car and you'd install the cheapest headers you can find even though they fit a different car? Awesome.
