dash cluster wiring needed.

Need to find wiring diagram for dash cluster and under dash. Haven't found one on web.

car - 87 camaro w/ TPI

I didn't scan through both of these to see if all the cluster connections are there, but I figured it was a good start. Got them from the sticky at the top of this forum, not sure if you checked that yet or not.

I check those links as with the autozone ones. Same ones actually. They dont show the connector to teh cluster.

Focus is to find out the wiring for temp gauge.

Here is what we know:
sender old and new = no difference. correct gauge sensor installed
ground out sender, gauge pins (12 o'clock)
remove forced ground, gauge drops to "0" or 100
engine is properly grounded to frame and body.
Gauge does sweep upon cracking and them returns to "0" when running.
Issue, temp gauge steadily increases and does not reflect actual engine temp as checked by heat gun. Gauge will go beyond 260 w/in 1 min running from cold. 220 in rough;y 30 sec, 150 in about 20 sec of running.

trying to find electrical diagram to check wiring and even test gauge. Have a feeling one of the coils on the gauge is acting up and or there is a poor connection somewhere from the sender to gauge.

Pick up a cheap temp gauge and see if it works with stock wiring etc? Swap cluster?

I hear ya, it does sound like the cluster though. All the other gauges work fine? I think there is a voltage regulator for the cluster.

Did more test only to get nowhere except a potentially bad sender.

According to the wiring diagrams, there is no regulators shown and the gauge wire is a direct run sans the firewall bulkhead connector.

Found another 86 cluster from junk yard. - no difference, gauge climbs to 260+ in short time period

Removed green wire from dash cluster plug and ran another one from that termional directly to gauge. (terminals are same as 2nd gen which I have plenty) No difference in Ohm readings from original and jumper wire at 0.2 - 0.3 ohms. - no difference

Using jumper wires to pull from power, ground and sender, I hooked up a 2nd gen gauge along with original and junk yard cluster. Constant ground was also switched between a body ground and ground terminal on cluster plug.- no difference.

Did same as above with another jumper connected to body of sender to know good ground and repeated test. - no difference.

The above test eliminated faults w/in the car's wiring and back feeding. Essentially externally reading the sender stand-alone. At least that was the intent.

This is about the 3rd or 5th sender between various people that have touched this car. Possible bad run of senders??? Looking for a known working sender and cluster currently.

You can check the sender with an Ohmmeter, 1260 Ohms at 100 degrees and 50 Ohms at 260 degrees.

The gauge also has two coils. The green wire is for one coil and varies in resistance based on the sender. The other coil is grounded from circuit 150, it's a black wire and goes through Splice #205 and then to Ground #200. The book says the ground is located behind the IP to the left of the steering column.

did you put anything on the sender where it screws into head? if so what? use leak-loc...DO NOT use teflon or ptfe or pro-dope etc. .....it screws with the sender...i had same problem in my car and that was why, because someone had tefloned the sender....the dielectric properties are ******....just an idea though

two weeks later though my gauge went so i just bought a sunpro water temp gauge wired to stock sender...works perfect
