What tranny

I might have to give zigs a call up, but anyawys. Whats a good base tranny that will hold up the torque of a big block. Lets just say this big block will be putting out between 650-750HP and about same torque

Manual, Auto? OD?

A TH-400 would be a logical choice....and a GearVendors OD if you want OD and got the coin to spend....

We are running a CKPerformance TH400 behind my brother's 427- 621hp, 555 lb-ft. Hasn't been to the track yet but it's beefy as hell.

I think rockland standard gear has a T-56 thats rated for over a thousand hp. I would imagine it would cost about a dollar per hp its rated for though

Otherwise, your options are a very well built TH-350, TH-400 or a powerglide. Tremec or Keisler might have a five speed that can hold that, but you'd have to check.

unless you are going with an overdrive unit all the transmissions for gm cars have the same top gear ratio 1 to 1 stick or automatic a pro mod 1500 HP or a weekend 300 HP bracket car will always go for a powergide but in your case it might be faster down the track with a 3 speed as a duel purpose car street / track combo better 60 foot and harder charge mid track jz
