Do you have ported heads or aftermarket castings?

Yea, cause that cam is way to big for unported stock castings.

Unless you want a dog of an engine, yes a new cam choice would help.

What's you goal/desires for the car?

Do you already have the cam? If so, stick with it. Yes there are some more "ideal" cams for it, But I have seen that cam make 350-360rwhp on stock heads. Cam will drop off around 5800-6000rpms though. pretty straight torque curve with a very steep hp curve.

it wont make much power down low, but just drop down a gear if your gonna race someone obviously.

Not debating with Matt, he is right as the cam will work exceptionally better with heads, but it will work and make good #'s without too.

Is the car an Auto or Manual? An auto with a stock convertor is going to have issues with a cam that big.

The link below is a build with a 847, similar cam. The car did not like to idle in gear and occasional stalled in reverse until we changed convertors.

Will still be a dog, a cc503 would be a better choice on stock heads.

I agree the 503 is a great cam for stock heads, but if he's planning on doing heads at a later date then why buy two cams? And I don't think it will be a dog, he's not going to get everything out of that 306 with stock heads, and he will have to keps the RPMs in the 6500 RPM range, but the car is going to run.

Not saying it won't pull, but it won't do much under 3k rpm, and driving round town may get old real quick.

No sense in building something wrong twice, just do it right the first time.
