Custom CTS-V foglights...Take 3...

Stock fog light/turn signals....

Mod 1: Stock lights with amber section tinted...

Mod 2: Lenses replaced with clear polycarbonate...

The modded lights were "ok" but still looked to unfinished to me. Plus the HID bulbs threw light everywhere and I finally had enough.

So I thought up a whole new design.... and with that, Mod 3 began...

Tonight I finished the passenger side and this weekend I gotta build the drivers side. They are still 6000k HIDs, but now have proper bi-xenon projectors and will be wired up to the stock high-beams. I also replaced the ugly yellowish-white turn signal bulb with a vertically mounted LED "DRL" which switches to amber when the turn signal is activated.

Definitely liking them! Would be cool if you played with that same style in the headlights.

second one is almost done, just gotta cut and then put the lens on it.

I also took a pic of it with the "DRL" powered up. It's actually very bright. The amber LEDs are not as bright though but are still easily visible(looks dim in the pic but thats mainly because the camera flash washed it out) And I will be doing the wiring so that at night, the DRL LEDs shut off completely when that turn signal is activated, Just like an Audi operates.

these will be a one of a kind thing, mainly due to the cost though. I had thought about making variations to sell, but no one in their right mind would pay what i did for these plus enough for me to make a decent profit.

I should have them mounted and hooked up by the middle of next week.

Mickey, The LED lights are from ebay , i think 35 shipped. they have 3 wires, red black and yellow. obviously black is ground, the red makes them light up white, and when power is also applied to the yellow wire at the same time, the light switches over to the amber LEDs. Im doing custom wiring so they function like the Audis where as when making a turn, the white LEDs shuts off completely on that side and it will then only blink amber until the turn signal is cancelled. Then the white LEDs will come back on. I dont want them to flash "white-amber-white-amber-"etc etc....

I have been working on these for several weeks now. I finally got them to the point where I was able to mount them in the car. Ill start with some fabrication pictures. The earlier pics aren't the prettiest but they accomplish my goal.

I will get better pics throughout the week as I actually get them completely wired properly, and I wash the car. Its hard to get decent night time pics due to my poor quality camera.

I started out with stock CTS foglight housings and pulled the lenses. Once they were off, I removed the divider and cut out the entire back of the housing. I bought a 6000k DS2 HID bi-xenon retrofit kit complete with real projectors and chrome shrouds. I also bought a pair of LED "DRL" lights. They are white when powered up and when power is applied to an additional wire, they switch over to amber LEDs. To fab up the new housings, I used a sheet of aluminum to form the new main housing and used fiberglass resin to finish it off and shape it up. I wont get into the details but it was a lot of trial end error, and not that easy, but they are finally done.

The new fogs mount right into the stock brackets with the stock pushpin on the one side and i had to use a nut and bolt on the other side. The level adjustment can be made and the bolt tightened to hold it in place.

The wiring was a whole different bunch of issues. When done, they "DRL"s will function similar to those on an Audi. They will only come on with the parking lights. However, when off, they will only blink amber with the directionals. When on, like I said they will be white, but will switch to amber at night and blink just amber until the directionals are cancelled, then the white LEDs will turn back on.

I thought about making a few sets of these and selling them, but due to the time involved and the cost to begin with, there is no point. I wont be able to sell a single pair and make even a penny.

Now for the pics....

Dude they look like they flow real nice with the factory headlights, I really like them. Nice work! You should do a vid of all the modes when its said and done.

Also, try placing the camera on a box when shooting in low light with no flash.

They are all wired up now.

During the day with lights off, they flash white.
At night with the lights on, the white act as parking lights then switch to amber for turn signals.

The amber LEDs look dim during the day but they aren't that bad actually, and just fine at night, but that is why I made them blink white during the day.
